Annual Mt Tam Birthday Ride, edition 41 in the books

Made it to Lathrop to the Olive Oil Pantry, which has surprisingly legit New Haven apizza. The taste of the mootz pie brought me to Sally’s. And they even have Foxon Park sodas, which they get shipped direct from Connecticut. I arrived just as they’d opened for lunch so the (electric) oven hadn’t had a ton of time to heat up, and so it could have had more char underneath, but the taste was spot on. Lathrop is kind of the middle of nowhere — or more accurately, is itself nowhere but kind of the middle of everywhere (there’s a reason there are Amazon and In-n-Out distribution centers there), but exactly equidistant between Oakland and my mother-in-law’s house. @tasteofnewhaven don’t sleep on this one

Nearly five years later, matching bedside tables are finally done. The tops are from the bookmatched walnut slab to the coffee table I made for @kalasp , from @hunskihardwoods . Drawers are walnut and lined with leather for a soft landing for stuff at bedtime. Lots of learning and setbacks in this project. I first tried massive sliding dovetails as slides for the drawers, inspired by a table by @brownwoodcraft from a few years ago, but quickly found that my drawers were far too heavy and I didn’t make the angle low enough, so the drawers either stuck or fell off if I added a touch more slack. I wanted hidden slides, so I ended up buying hanging keyboard slides, and mounting them backwards. Of course, this meant I needed to cut slots in the back of the drawers for them to slide through. Lost for leg ideas at the end, I ended up buying some nice midcentury-style walnut legs from @tablelegsdotcom . The whole project is finished with @rubiomonocoatusa Pure 2C.

First pizza post in a while! This pizza place opened in my hometown, which I visit once a year for Thanksgiving but haven’t made it the last few years. Finally made it — been meaning to come for the punctuation alone (Frankly…pizza!). Nice woodfired pies. Nothing special (the marg would be 10x improved by fresh tomatoes instead of cooked sauce), but a nice neighborhood vibe, especially around the holidays. The family approves.

My sister’s coffee table, 3+ years in the making, finally complete. Salvaged claro walnut with a hanging curly maple shelf on walnut dowels.

Bought this beautiful claro walnut slab 3 years ago to make a coffee table for my sister, but life has a way of getting in the way. Been waiting for to see this crotch grain pop for a while.
