One morning in the valley off Cemorolawang on a recent trip to Indonesia. Traversing the volcanic plains as a mix of thick cloud & sulphuric smoke from neighbouring volcanos trapped in the valley. Some impressions of the local horseman & workers making their morning crossing.

We walked higher and higher. Dust filled the air and our lungs. A distinct stillness. Few sounds other than the volcano below, which seemed to grumble in its own frequency, constantly reminding us of its presence. We started the decent from the top just as the sun pieced through heavy clouds. Waking horses and their men, and illuminating flowers left for offerings to the sacred mountain.

I’ve been going through old archives shot in Indonesia last year. Revisiting Java, a place where I hadn’t been since I was about 8 or so years old. It’s always interesting going back & seeing what u were noticing at the time. Here’s what came up.
