Well this one is crazy.
Everyone has one or two artists who have profoundly shaped their life—whether it’s an album you played on repeat with friends or a song that resonated during a pivotal moment. For me, that artist is Andy Gullahorn. I’ve been listening to his music since 2006, and his ability to craft poignant songs without pretense has always stood out to me.
If you don’t know the songwriting of Andy Gullahorn, let me put this in perspective for you. Getting to record Andy Gullahorn to me, would be like my mom teaching High School Biology to John Denver. It would be like my electrician friend Joe installing a new 200-amp subpanel at Taylor Swift’s house. Insert your favorite songwriter and line of work to apply this analogy to yourself.

I first heard Pierce at an Open-Mic night on the north side of Houston. Great voice and songwriting. This kid is going places. https://youtu.be/36KCbgROnj0?si=saZnHJg4sHW71gmM
We had just finished recording “Coworker’s Funeral,” which you can see on the channel, and I asked Matthew Glenn Parrish if he wanted to record another song in front of the accidental pond in my backyard. He said “sure, it’s another sad one but slower. I write sad songs at different speeds.” Sad Songs at Different Speeds… he didn’t ask for my advice, but if Matt put an album out with that title I’d buy it twice.

I released this full video on the Post Oak Station YouTubes yesterday. We got rained on right as we started recording and then had to grab equipment and run to the patio. But I like the end result where the rain sings along. If you could watch it on loop 50x and subscribe to the channel that would be nice. https://youtu.be/rSeHqDa2CH0?si=Bg_8T6LEUAE-SsM1
