This eight-issue story arc continues the savage suburban epic that feeds Honey, I Shrunk the Kids through a war grinder and marinates it in Conan-flavored myth and mayhem.

Marvel’s SECRET WARS event in 2015 was a blast, in part because it afforded everybody there the chance to explore all sorts of different off-beat series that normally would’ve been tough to get approved. I wrote THORS, which was a cop drama, my ode to “Homicide: Life on the Street,” but with magic hammers. And I got to do a full-on fantasy series, WEIRDWORLD, with art by the incomparable Mike Del Mundo, featuring all sorts of obscure Marvel sword and sorcery characters, including Arkon of Polemachus (with his quiver of thunderbolts), Skull the Slayer, and a few of the crew from THE SAGA OF CRYSTAR, CRYSTAL WARRIOR, which had its own comic and toy line back in the 80s.

Well, issue #1 of the new series, THE COMING OF THE WARDOOM, is infested with cockroaches. In issue #2, you meet the Underbugs and other denizens of the Ash Lands. After that, we’ll visit more parts of the Yard that haven’t yet been unexplored, so who knows what sort of monsters might be waiting there.

The original Star Wars films were a transformative part of my childhood. The same went for John Cassaday. He and I talked about that while walking through the Lucasfilm Archives together, looking through boxes of lightsabers. Our opening arc, “Skywalker Strikes,” arc was made with a life time’s worth of love and passion. I expect it will always be one of the proudest moments for my career. Thanks, John. When I did UNCLE SCROOGE & THE INFINITY DIME, I tried to do the biggest, craziest Scrooge story I could imagine, figuring it would be the only chance I’d get to write one of my favorite comic book adventure characters. Then Marvel turned around and asked me for a Scrooge mini-series, so I had to somehow go even bigger while also digging deeper into the memory and emotions of the World’s Richest Duck. I also got to work with a cavalcade of amazing Marvel artists, as we explore the different ages and eras of Scrooge McDuck, all of which is my love letter to the work of the great Don Rosa.

As soon as I saw Dynamite doing comics based on various Hanna-Barbera cartoon properties, I told them if they managed to get the rights to Thundarr from Ruby Spears to let me know. And sure enough they did. So now here I am getting to write the first ever comic book adventure of my all-time favorite Saturday morning cartoon hero. Grab a bowl of Fruity Pebbles and join us.
