You might have already experienced and smelled Floralis Orange in person at @designblok_prague 🍊
Today, I’d love to share a glimpse behind the scenes — into the making of this handcrafted material created from ground oranges and hemp tow.
The development of the 3D-printed mold took over two years. It’s a unique technology: the tool consists of several parts that create delicate lines and tiny openings. These make the material flexible and, once the lamp is assembled, allow light to pass through beautifully. The result is a structure that couldn’t be achieved using traditional papermaking techniques. 🧡

Dnes vám chci ukázat zákulisí výroby tohoto ručně vytvářeného materiálu z rozemletých pomerančů a konopné koudele.
Vývoj 3D tištěného síta trval přes dva roky. Jde o unikátní technologii — přípravek se skládá z několika částí, díky kterým vznikají jemné linky a otvory. Ty usnadňují ohýbání materiálu a zároveň po složení lampy krásně propouštějí světlo. Výsledkem je struktura, kterou by klasickým papírenským řemeslem nebylo možné vytvořit. 🧡
I’m often asked whether it makes sense to invest in a custom lighting installation if you know you’ll be moving.
The answer is - yes❤️🔥.
A few years ago, I created custom pine-needle lanterns for Petr. When he moved, we relocated the installation with him — and expanded it in the new apartment with an additional custom collection made from orange material.

Behind the scenes of the Floralis collection🌸.
The final form of Floralis is the result of months of testing and refinement to reach the shape you see today.
The paper is formed using custom 3D-printed moulds. Hemp fibre gives the material strength and stability, while natural rubber adds flexibility. For safe use in interiors, the material is treated with fire-retardant protection.
These are small glimpses from the early stages — developing the 3D moulds in collaboration with @prusalab , thank you!

Behind the scenes of creating the Orange material🧚🏻♂️.
Each lamp is made from several orange peels, and the material itself has been developed by me and the team over several years.
I’m glad to see Floralis Orange 🍊already lighting so many spaces and the new Orange Drop is still available in the last few pieces on the e-shop.

It was a completely new and really valuable experience for me, as I hadn’t photographed a light installation in a room without daylight before. This combination wasn’t easy 😃
