A modern tribute to this Seattle Craftsman: The ultimate Before & WOW. For this first-floor remodel, our goal was to modernize functionality while honoring the home’s traditional character. We updated the kitchen cabinetry with sliding glass doors and embraced traditional wood detailing to bring the entire floor together. View the full Before & Wow transformation at the link in our bio. Your bathroom should feel like the best part of your morning. The right light, the right materials, a perfect space to start and wrap up your day. We're sharing some of the bathrooms from our recent home remodels around the Pacific Northwest — and this is one of the parts of the job that never gets old. There's something about a well-designed bathroom that people don't talk about enough. It's personal, it's tucked away, and when it's right, it's really right. Swipe through and tell us which one is calling your name. Full project details at the link in bio.

You've seen the yellow door and the lake-rinse shower. Here's the rest. A Seattle houseboat remodel asks different questions than a typical home rebuild — and this one went further than most. A complete rebuild of the existing floating home, down to the studs, with a second story added on top. Weight distribution, waterproofing, how to let the light in without losing wall space you can't afford to lose. The solution here was to open the water side up completely — floor-to-ceiling sliding glass, a rooftop deck with a fire pit, the Seattle skyline sitting right there behind it. The kitchen got a full redesign too. Sage green cabinetry, open walnut shelving, marble counters, a skylight that changes the whole room. Quaint kitchen. Does its job. Cable rail stairs, shiplap walls, a Noguchi table on a rug that looks like it came straight out of the lake. Not every project floats. This one does — in more ways than one. Reclaimed doug-fir shiplap flooring from @lovettdecon . Sourced from our friends at Lovett Deconstruction in Portland, each board brings its own rustic character to this Lopez Island build. The final product will receive a coat of Osmo wax to protect the wood and enrich its natural patina. Thanks as always to Der, Kate, and the rest of the team at Lovett! More from this Lopez Island project coming soon.

Whidbey Island asks something specific of a house. The weather, the light, the way people actually use a place when they're there to slow down. This remodel was designed around all of it. Open living spaces that flow to the deck. A kitchen built for real cooking — sea-glass tile, open walnut shelving, windows that pull the outside in. Finishes chosen for durability as much as for how they look. And enough color to remind you you're somewhere worth being — a sunshine yellow shower, a deep navy built-in, a bedroom wallpaper that earns every square inch of the wall. Everything has a place. Nothing is fussy about it. DM us to start a conversation about your project.

Loft on the Lake This waterfront remodel balances an open-concept with purposeful smaller spaces built for intimate gatherings, making the home feel expansive yet deeply connected. And a central design element is the walk-in wine room, featuring custom steel and glass that anchors the home's crisp aesthetic beautifully. See how we brought this waterfront vision to life at the link in our bio. Photos by: @jesse_young_photography

We found our office photos from 2013. Turns out, not much has changed. Here's a peek inside the JAS office, circa 2013. Our staff has grown quite a bit since then, but some things have stayed the same. We still have an extensive materials library, still sketch and draw on paper, clip images for mood-boards, and we still believe in meetings in person. So many good memories made in this office on Wallingford Ave, where you can still find us today.

Small footprint, big purpose. Since Seattle began allowing ADUs in the early 90's and DADUs in 2010, our team has designed and built 15+ projects of this type. ADUs and DADUs are a creative housing type with the potential for increased density, affordability, passive income, and the ability to better utilize a property. This DADU, designed by our team, serves as a private office and guest suite, giving the owners a quiet retreat and dedicated space to work from home. To see our finished ADU and DADU projects, visit the link in our bio.

Over the last 30 years, we've hired more than 30 graduates of the Wood Technology Center at Seattle College. Cabinet makers, carpenters, project managers — some of the best people on our team came through that program. Many others went on to start their own firms. The trades in this city are better because that school exists. The Wood Technology Center is currently under threat of closure. That would be a serious loss — not just for JAS, but for Seattle's construction and design community as a whole. If you want to learn more or find ways to help, visit savewtc.com and follow @woodtechnologycenter . Share how many WTC grads you know or have hired by doing your own post. Spread the word and tag us.

The framing on this one was almost too good to cover up. This is a look inside the barrel vault taking shape at our Lopez Island remodel — a PNW rebuild that sits right on the water. Before a single sheet of drywall goes up, the framing has to be right. Every rafter cut to follow the curve, every run of blocking set to hold it. The crew spent weeks on the bones of this vaulted ceiling before the finish work could even begin. You can see the water through the walls in a few of these. Hard to complain about the job site views out here. The drywall is up now, and you can finally see where this is headed. Follow along as this one comes together.

Before and WOW: The mid-century revival this home deserved. We leaned into mid-century modern design for this Seattle home remodel, with warm wood tones, clean lines, and timeless finishes throughout. The power of transformation, all in the hands of our design-build team. Have a project in mind? Send us a DM!

Sharyn Wooten, one of our creative directors, is speaking this Saturday at the Wally-Home Resource Fair in Wallingford — and if you're thinking about a remodel, it's worth stopping by. Sharyn has spent over 20 years designing homes in the Pacific Northwest that work intuitively, feel personal, and hold up over time. She'll be talking about how to build an effective partnership with a full-service design-build firm. Real answers from someone who's been doing this work in this neighborhood for a long time. The fair is free, hosted by Historic Wallingford, and runs all day with vendors, presenters, and a guided neighborhood walking tour led by historian Thomas Veith. JAS is a proud sponsor. Wally-Home Resource Fair Saturday, April 25 — 10 am to 3:30 pm Wallingford Center, 1815 N 45th Street Tag a neighbor who should be there.
