Thor's hammer from God of War 4 is finally in the bag! After having such a blast with the Levithian Axe I was hungry to do more complex, detail-oriented builds to really flex those digital design muscles.
There were some particularly hairy molds built for this project that required some extensive R&D, and my technique for doing cold casting pieces got quite the tune up.
I would love to work out the bugs with the internal lighting system and build another one of these. I guess that one will see the light of day about 3 years from now!
If you'd like to build one of these in anticipation for God of War: Ragnarok, the 3d models are available on my storefront. Etsy:Jarmanprops (Link in bio)

On Fridays I try to set aside some time to go back through old productions I've worked on and document the builds.
This week I finally had the chance to revisit Guardians 3 - spider lamps, space grills, and armor oh my!
A huge thank you to @laura_c_cox for the work, and @bluewhalemakeup for the roof to do that work under.

A big thank you to Prop Master Doug Madison for bringing us on to fabricate several hero and stunt weapons for the show. I was project lead for the build at the @bluewhalemakeup shop.
The most notable prop that shows up in the hands of Ke Huy Quan and Chris Pratt’s character was the Amhearst Rifle. From the well thought out concept art provided, the weapon was designed as a rail gun that fired explosive discs. This made for some fun fabrication mods as we worked through how this gun would actually function in the real world.
The original paint scheme gave off distinct “District 9” vibes and was a bit too similar to the guns of the enemy droids so a quick reshoot in black and silver made this prop stand out as a unique item.
While it unfortunately didn’t get any screen time, the ammo packs were fully modular and could be hot-swapped in and out of the frame as needed for reloading. With each disc being its own multi-piece assembly we opted to gang mold the lot and resin cast the pieces by the dozen.
This is the @fanduel Kick of Destiny trophy I fabricated back in December.
The turnaround for this build was just over 3 days from final design approval. The K1max farm chewed through these pieces in just a few hours and I was about to cover the majority of the printing sins with a liberal application of UPOL 4:1 high build primer.
For the chrome and topcoat I used a gloss white base and MotoStorm Ultrabright to make the final candy gold tone pop. Its not perfect, but I'm pretty thrilled with how the paintjob turned out on such a short timeline.
@raptorhousefx also got a hand on the ball (foot?) and applied a really nice masked logo paintjob on the final piece.
These oversized medallions fabricated for PlayVS in 2021 were cold cast in brass using the mold dusting method. Multiple rounds of low speed wheel buffing and Mother's Mag metal polish really bring out the luster and natural warm tones in the surface coat. One of these days I'd love to goof around with blending nickel powder into the mix and seeing where we end yo.
It's a shame that jet black resins (TC-808,SCOnyx,etc) and most other 2-part urethanes have degraded in quality to the point where results like these are exceedingly difficult to achieve. While I'm absolutely over the moon with how proper cold casting looks and feels in hand, these days I'm more inclined to opt for a metallic paintjob over rolling the dice on this method.
Have any of you other faux-metal resin artist found workarounds for the current state of materials?
Last year's hidden koroks were a hit so we are back this time with snacks! Root out these hidden candy filled dryads in the host hotels at Dragoncon or find me on the show floor and say hello for a 3d printed treat.
Happy Dragoncon eve!
Wrapping up a quick #Dragoncon2024 commission based on the graphic novel #cursewords. The book is a fun mashup of modern day and magic mishaps. I'd give it a solid 9/10.
Mostly MSLA 3d printed parts with a 0.375" threaded insert for easy breakdown and transport. The gem is epoxy cast and tinted with #soStrong and #pearlex pigments.
I wasn't super jazzed about the first crystal print / clear coat combo so we went back to the drawing board. The model was tweaked a bit to make things a little chunkier and instead of going directly into paint from a print, I molded and cast the piece in a water clear epoxy from GFCI. Pearlescent pigments from Pearlex give it an extra bit of internal 'pop' and color shift, while the SoStrong tint takes care of the main intrinsic color.

Adding threaded inserts to a long prop can be tricky as the details don't always want to line up. After getting within 5-10 degrees of alignment I like to socket my threads .5-1mm below the surface so there is still wiggle room for adjustments after the inserts are epoxied into place.
This seam isn't absolutely perfect but its by far the best breakdown staff I've made in quite a while.

We finished up the #fallout TV series the other day and wow what a ride it was! It's right up there in the running for one of my favorite video game adaptations. Major kudos to all my friends who contributed to its success.
Everyone is clawing out of the woodwork with their favorite prop builds from the universe so here is mine - The Rocket Bat from Fallout 4. This was a build from 5-6 years back for an Atom Cats group at #Dragoncon. @captainahmazing did an ahmazing job with these 3d models!
I hear the Fallout show was greenlit for a season 2 so if anyone I know has an in with @amazonmgmstudios or @kilterfilms - I'm an experienced prop fabricator and I am 110% available to set up shop in LA for a few months for work.
I just wrapped up a quick replica sculpt commission for a rather odd bronze statue restoration. The reference art was challenging at best but I think we captured a good likeless of the original. These 3d printed patterns will be used to make wax masters and ultimate end up as angry little bronze Hydras. Neat!
Printed on an Elegoo Jupiter using Sirayatech fast 8k metal resin.

Faux-gold leaf over a raw MSLA print of some scaled up scan data makes for an unbelievably quick prop staff headpiece. Color me blown away by how much this gold POPS in person. IMHO, it doesn't photograph too badly either!
