Terminal ballistics, the most misunderstood topic within hunting!
That 243 worked great on your first deer at 12 but you turned 18 and suddenly you need a 300 Win Mag!
Donāt listen to the supposed experts leading you astray when they donāt know their way around a rifle and have been ignorantly preaching false information with no first hand experience to back it up.
Putting a well constructed bullet where it belong is all that matters.
Most of us donāt tolerate excessive recoil well which is why I suggest to most guys to go with a lower recoiling cartridge, a good bullet and put it in the vitals.
Which cartridge/bullet combo do you feel most confident in putting in the right spot? (Key point here is with your current skill set!)

Training never stops!
Thereās a reason why winners win, killers kill and doers do.
When youāve figured out the path to success, you simply apply it to every aspect of your life.
Thereās no other way.
Put in the work. No days off. When no oneās looking, keep grinding.

Is reloading worth it to you?
What are your goals with your hand loads?
If youāre just getting into it, what are you hoping to achieve?
More accuracy? Cheaper ammo? Complete control over the process?
Iāve heard Keith from Winning in the Wind say he shoots so he can reload š¤£š¤£š¤£ I love that!
Is reloading worth it to you?
Wellā¦I got a new truck
Figured it was time to post this.
A good lesson, a good humbling and some good blessings all rolled into one.
It was the day after Thanksgiving. It had snowed all day in Bozeman, but as my son and I rolled through Big Timber, there was only rain. As we approached Columbus, the temps plummeted and the rain turned the highway to a sheet of ice.
I couldnāt keep it off the guardrail, the camper ejected and we did a couple 360ās before ending up in the center median. The crash was gentle but sitting on the side of the highway while crashes continued all around us was about the most scared Iāve ever been.
Thankfully the trooper picked up my son and I and dropped us at the Super 8 in Columbus. We spent the weekend there watching movies (Back to Future, Goonies, and other 80ās-90ās classics) before my brother came and got us on Sunday.
As scary as the situation was, God blessed my son and I. He kept us safe, we got to know each other a little better and we have a story. My insurance took care of everything and I got a new(Old) truck thanks to some good friends.
Whatās the lesson? Iām not exactly sure other than Godās in control and I was reminded that I am certainly not!
Jed had a pretty epic season last year; couple an ibex, bear, big deer, lots of adventure and plenty of lessons learned.
We recorded a great podcast together and he shares some of his decision making when in striking distance on some of his huntāa from last season.

FYI one of my cameras decided not to focus so the YouTube video is wacky!
If there is any proof for @joelturneractual ās Shot IQ system it would be me today.
My float was red to red the whole game and somehow ended with a 293-13X
It makes no sense why shooting paper at 20 yards with a bunch of other like minded awesome people gives me the adrenaline rush that it does but itās truly the most challenging mental training that Iāve ever done.
Itās hard to trust the float when itās red to red and focus on the shot process but every time I did, Iād get an X or a 10. The middle of the game I started focusing on my pin and how bad the float was and thatās when I shot a bunch of 9ās.
As soon as I went back to focusing on my shot execution, the 10ās came back.
The adrenaline dump is wild. Makes no sense. Itās just paper at 20. Focus on the float, bad shot. Focus on the process, 10!
Leicaās Ryan Holm @ryan__holm recently sat down with Jaden Bales on the @Rokslide Rokcast to talk through the role modern optics play in todayās hunting setups.ā£
ā£
From glass quality and low-light performance to integrating with ballistic solvers, weather data and mapping tools, the conversation looks at how optics now sit within a wider hunting system. It also covers practical setups for different styles of hunting, along with simple but often overlooked tips that can improve ranging accuracy when it matters most.ā£

Stop gatekeeping, stop holding onto lies, let go of what makes you comfortable. Just because youāve āalways done it this wayā doesnāt make it right.
Open your eyes. Be brutally honest with yourself. Make experienced based decisions, but donāt marry yourself to them.
Be willing to change. Listen to others. Be adaptable.
Too many of us (myself included) think our bullet/cartridge decision defines us as men. Even worse is when we attach ourselves to our latest purchase and refuse to look at the performance through unbiased eyes.
Iāve had bad experiences with products I was told were the best and eye opening experiences with products I was told were no good.
Hot tip: As men, itās our ego thatās holding us back.
Wanna be a better shooter? Kill your ego
Better hunter? Kill your ego
Better man? Husband? Father? Friend? You know the answerā¦
Canāt wait to run one of these 88 TMKās through a bear this spring and document the performance. Not trying to prove a point, simply another data point to help guide all our decision making.
What product have you been surprised by in a positive or negative way? A tougher question, where has your ego got you in trouble because you were too afraid to admit the truth?
