Never underestimate the power of radical commitment. @jared_ward and his team at @joinluminous are one of my favorite clients, for many reasons… The greatest being their radical commitment to making something valuable for their clients. The “no matter what” commitment has pulled them through some really challenging obstacles! And they are just getting started. The greatest determinant to building something significant is you and your team’s commitment. Thanks Jared for having me on your show, and for inspiring me with your vision and action. 👊🏼🧡

The majority of company founders that I work with battle anxiety on a regular basis if not constantly. This conversation with @jared_ward about how he has learned to live with his anxious thoughts is powerful. Those of you that experience anxiety, what do you do to with it? How does it effect your day to day ability to run your biz? Is Jared’s insight helpful?

Yesterday marked the two year anniversary of my Dad’s death. He passed away on October 1, 2021. Although he had been fighting cancer for 4+ years to that point, it was actually quite sudden. It was an up and down battle but trending upward. The first diagnosis was basically a death sentence with tumors in the colon, liver, and lungs. He went on and off so many treatments and eventually was able to shrink all his tumors and even got the one in his colon removed. Things were looking up.... Then all of a sudden, after seeing him at my sister’s wedding in September 2021, we got a phone call from my Mom saying he had 24 hours left and we needed to come say our goodbyes. I’m still processing all of these events to this day, but I’ll share one memory I have of him. My Sophomore year of high school in 2008 I went to get a drink of water at 2:00 am and I found my Dad on his knees praying in the dark in the living room. I was too young at the time to understand the complexities of everything going on but his business was affected by the 2008 crash big time. He asked me to play piano for him to help him relax and help him feel his pain. About 12 years later, I got $90,000 stolen from me during a business I started in the Pandemic. After going through my own financial crisis, this moment has a lot more meaning to me. I finally understand everything he took on during that time to make sure the rest of the family didn’t have to take it on. My Dad was incredibly strong and he taught me how to be vulnerable. He was just a guy keeping everything together for his family of 6 kids during the absolute worst financial crisis of his life. Sometimes I will just sit down and play piano in the darkness and it reminds me to just be in the moment and feel.

If you’re sourcing from China, prioritizing the lowest cost on your products will not get you the best results. If a manufacturer give you a price, that’s usually the best they can do, and trying to lower it means they will cut corners somewhere in the process. 1) Work direct with your factories 2) Get prices from multiple factories to understand what standard pricing is 3) Prioritize the relationship over the lowest cost

I got $90,000 stolen from me…. It sucked…. Bad… But I learned so many valuable lessons about business and life. Shit happens in life and in business and you have to process the anxiety that comes and act out of clarity. Luckily this has a happy ending: we went from 0-3mm in 6 months, paid back the 90k and made some money along the way in addition to valuable lessons that I carry with me to this day. If anyone has a crisis like this, reach out I’d love to be a listening ear. It’s never as bad as it seems 🤣

Episode 1 of Ops Unfiltered live! I got to chat with @mitch.sanders13 the COO of @thread_wallets ! He goes over his struggles learning to be an operator fresh out of college with no experience. Mitch was able to grow into a seasoned operator and maintain crucial relationships that helped Thread grow. To this day they still use the same 3PL and supply chain management service from @alexburdge and @heyshyftglobal Watch on my YouTube channel for the full episode
