Die Deutsche Jazzunion begrüßt das neue Positionspapier des Deutschen Musikrats zu zukunftsfähigen Förderstrukturen für die freie Musikszene – besonders für Jazz und improvisierte Musik.
🎶Besonders erfreulich für uns:
Unser Professor @janningt (Jazz-Posaune) war als Vorstandsmitglied der Deutschen Jazzunion maßgeblich beteiligt. Das Positionspapier wurde im Fachausschuss Arbeit und Soziales unter seiner Leitung erarbeitet und anschließend vom Präsidium des Deutschen Musikrats verabschiedet. Der Ausschuss fungiert dabei als Expertengremium und Think Tank innerhalb des Musikrats.
✨ Im Fokus des Positionspapiers steht die klare Kritik an der bisherigen reinen Projektförderung, die langfristige Arbeit, Personal, Administration und nachhaltige künstlerische Entwicklung kaum absichert. Gefordert wird ein 3-Säulen-Modell aus Projekt-, Struktur- und institutioneller Förderung, um faire Arbeitsbedingungen, Planungssicherheit und Qualität zu ermöglichen.

Strong signal for the independent music scene 🎷
The German Jazz Union welcomes the German Music Council's new position paper on sustainable funding structures for the independent music scene—especially for jazz and improvised music.
🎶We are particularly pleased that
our professor Janning Trumann (jazz trombone) played a key role as a member of the board of the German Jazz Union. The position paper was drafted by the expert committee on labor and social affairs under his leadership and then adopted by the presidium of the German Music Council. The committee acts as an expert panel and think tank within the Music Council.
✨ The position paper focuses on clear criticism of the previous approach of purely project-based funding, which provides little security for long-term work, personnel, administration, and sustainable artistic development. It calls for a three-pillar model of project, structural, and institutional funding to enable fair working conditions, planning security, and quality.

When in Italy 🇮🇹… Really enjoyed this year’s @europejazznet conference in Bari! Great to meet likeminded people and exchange ideas on how to strengthen the music we all love and share.
We also had the chance to announce and present our plans as hosts of the 2026 European Jazz Conference in Cologne – the first time this conference will take place in Germany. 🎷✨
The @cologne_jazzweek joins forces with @stadtgarten_koeln and @monheimtriennale for this! Looking very much forward to welcoming everyone to Cologne, September 24–27, 2026. 🙂
@cologne_jazzweek 2025 appreciation post! These 5th edition came to an end! So many wonderful moments and impressions. Thank you to the most wonderful team, artists, guests, sponsors and venues all over Cologne. 50 concerts, 21 stages, 280 musicians, 10.500 visitors, lots of emails and calls. Worth it ❤️

Ich habe mit dem Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger über die aktuelle Lage der Kölner Kulturszene und die Aussicht für die @cologne_jazzweek gesprochen.
Die enormen Kosten der Opernsanierung und die anhaltende Debatte darüber belasten das Image der Kultur- und Musikstadt Köln erheblich. Statt über Beton sollten wir mehr über die künstlerischen Inhalte sprechen.
In Zeiten knapper Kassen ist es umso wichtiger, kulturpolitisch differenziert zu entscheiden: Welche Kultur fördern wir und nach welchen Kriterien? Wir brauchen eine Debatte darüber, wie die Kulturförderung des 20. Jahrhunderts an die Anforderungen und Bedürfnisse der Kultur des 21. Jahrhunderts angepasst werden kann.

Spannende Tage auf der JazzNow der @deutschejazzunion in Stuttgart mit Diskussionen um die Lage der Jazzszene in Deutschland inkl. der Präsentation unseres neuen Jazzberichts 2024 der Bundeskongerenz Jazz. Wir haben außerdem über den Export diskutiert und die Folgen für KI in der Musik. Im Anschluss direkt nach Berlin auf das Jazzfest für das Pressegespräch zum Jazzbericht 2024. 👌
