P.S 10-year old me was a huge David Essex fan, a tune as old as these lampbases.

Studio week. Block printing onto natural linen with my most Brutalist of designs, based on cast concrete reliefs. The type you see along 60s-built motorway slip roads and bridges.
This piece-printed cloth will be made into lamps (for the vintage Ikea tripods shown) small lampshades and cushions.

Happy 75th Anniversary to the Festival of Britain, a showcase for advancements in Science, Manufacturing & the Arts opening on this day in 1951. A temporary set of pavilions, located on heavily ww2 bombed land, south side of the Thames with sites in Poplar (Lansbury Estate) and Battersea (Festival Pleasure Gardens).
A constant influence on my design work and research since student days.
I’m sharing here some personal connections/photos from visits across the sites.
A tonic to the nation.
7️⃣5️⃣ 🥂🌷🥳
1. Festival of Britain logo on programme cover, Abraham Games.
2. My 18yr old Mum at the Southbank, probably near the Skylon entrance, maybe holding a programme.
3. Net & Ball carpet, originally designed by Peter Moro and Leslie Martin. Very comfy underfoot.
4. Double weave modernist wall hanging, Royal Festival Hall boxes, Hilary Bourne & Barbara Allen. Very tufty.
5. Celebrating student graduations in the RFH auditorium.
6. Celebrating 50 years of Aladdin Sane, projection on South Bank Centre exterior.
7. Ernest Race ‘Springbok’ chairs amongst the tulip planters, then…
8. And (probably) the same concrete planters now, at the car park entrance to UCA Canterbury where I worked for 10 years.
9 & 10. Benches and fences - A post-pandemic outdoor day out with friends at the Festival Pleasure Gardens, Battersea.
11 & 12. Tick tock. Clocktower at Chrisp Street Market, located near to Frederick Gibberd’s Lansbury estate in the Poplar neighbourhood - a New Town market square aesthetic prototype.
Optimism and hope.

Glimpse of a ‘Corita’ re-print in the studio - my 70s-style design inspired by Sister Corita Kent, nun/educator/social activist and pop art printmaker/graphic designer.
Keeping it analogue with my 40yr-old wooden silkscreens. 🧡🩵
Photos by visiting daughter @marth.l3vy 💕

Taking things back to 2020 with my ‘Corita’ print - tripod lamps, shades and cushions for a new audience.
If you bought this print from me in that era, I salute you. 🧡🩵🌸
Happy Weekend!

Continuing a celebration of my Dad’s centenary birth year. My parents gave me a cookbook in 2001 as a present, in which Dad inscribed the message. I always loved his handwriting and tried to copy it. In the few years after, my Dad gradually lost his sight with macular degeneration to the point where he could no longer read or see his own handwriting. I commissioned this embroidered work from @laura.ann.artist which was a birthday gift from my family.
It really is very special.
And my kids grew up on Jamie Oliver recipes. 😊

Studio week: Designing and test-printing a new design for new lampshades. Now to work out a set of colours (I rarely use black and white).
Every mid-century textile designer I admire is showing up in this print.
Also shown are Paisley and Kashmir Buteh pattern samples from another research trip to the phenomenal V&A storehouse in Stratford.
Another week over the finish line.
