My Charlie,
I remember when I first read about you. I knew nothing about you other than you were 6 ½ and from a mill. I was hesitant at first. Getting a dog that age meant less time together. But something told me I needed you.
I remember bringing you home, showing you grass for the first time beneath your rough paws, you sleeping next to me. It was only days before our souls connected.
Weekend cabin getaways, road tripping and boating in AZ, the beach in NC. Sleeping under my desk at the office. Coffee shop pup cups, breweries, and restaurant patios. Sitting at the dinner table with us, watching you lay in the warm sun or hop around after you poop. 3 moves, grad school, and hard times - you were a constant.
Being my little spoon or sleeping between our pillows. Snoozing on my chest. Lying together and just looking into each other’s eyes. We had our own unspoken language. We were meant to be together, even if it took 6.5 yrs to find each other. You are my soul dog.
Our hearts and souls will always be intertwined. Watching you transform into the dog you were always meant to be was the most rewarding experience of my life. I will never be able to thank you enough for the comfort you gave me, the patience you taught me, and the loyalty you showed me. Your loss was shocking and unexpected. Those last moments were so scary, but I tried to make your suffering as short-lived as possible. Losing you has been the most painful thing I have ever experienced. The hollow echo of your absence is indescribable. I didn’t know it was possible to feel this type of heartache. The fact that we were together for 2,367 days, and that just a couple of weeks ago we celebrated you being with us longer than being in that mill, brings comfort. No words will ever be able to truly convey the love I have for you. I promise I’ll never forget you. I promise we’ll take good care of your sissies. I know you’re watching over us in some way. And one day, when it comes time to rescue another dog, I know you will have picked them out for us. I know you’re waiting for me on Rainbow Bridge, and we’ll be reunited one day. For now, I’ll look for signs and hold you in my heart. I love you, my Son♥️🌈
