Awards did not come my way, I would have so loved to create a print edition with CCA, but I was very happy that my work became the backdrop for the presentation and speeches by the judging panel. New things, the beginnings, early days. Work in progress towards a series inspired by the transfixing experience of a particular Japanese pool from our travels last year. A work in progress - in fact the revisiting of a piece started ages ago which has been languishing in a rarely opened plan chest drawer. When confidence slips it seems an easier, less pressured thing to do than start afresh. I spent a full-on but brilliant and fun day yesterday helping to hang the exhibition of the work based on the extraordinary trees of Staverton Park by @the_arborealists at @theminories in Colchester. It is such a fabulous rich show of more than 60 paintings, the culmination of a 2 year project and also includes several guest artists like myself! I have been wanting to find a way to make small print editions of my work in addition to the time heavy one-off works on paper, so last week I had another go at Collagraph at the brilliant @curwenprintstudycentre taught by the truly fabulous @katherinejones_pp Such great teaching and so much to learn but what a buzz! This is as far as I got, just 2 somewhat clumsy plates (dk green & siena) but I feel there is such rich potential in this very painterly print process. A great start to the creative year and actually I can’t wait to explore further…. Image 4 is the first small sampler/trial print.
