The Marvelous Mrs Maisel - Series Wrap Party We also created three lounges for the guests to retreat and have more intimate conversations. A library was turned into a Columbia University inspired lounge with leather chairs, and chalkboard. Abe Weissman would have been happy here. Another room we turned into a Catskills, Steiner Mountain resort inspired room, with many props and graphics from the 2nd season. A small restaurant was called “the crew lounge”, not because it was for the crew only, but instead of featuring a set we wanted to celebrate our crew, which had worked so hard on five seasons from 2016 until 2022. The Marvelous Mrs Maisel’ Series Wrap Party I had only worked on season 5 of Maisel for a short time because I had become production designer on another TV show, City On A Hill. But I was called back to Maisel to take care of the design of the series wrap party. Together with my amazing team, POC Tim Mendonca @timmendo and APOC Elena DeLucia @elenadeluccia as well as our Set Decorator Ellen Christiansen, Assistant Set Decorator Mary Fellows @maryfell63 , Assistant Art Directors Mike Chesbro @chezransom , Marc Wheeler @marcjasonwheeler , and Hillary Noxon @hnj__designs and Graphic Designers Mark Pollard @mr_pollardino , George DuPont @judgedupont and Leah Spencer @byleahspencer we put up a helluva design for a wrap party at Cipriani on Wall Street @ciprianiwallstreet , truly worthy of the amazing TV show we had all worked on together for so many years. On the main ballroom floor we installed set pieces from Coney Island, Las Vegas, The Wolford, Paris, B.Altman and created a Central Park Bar. FleurishNYC @fleurish_nyc provided us with impeccable service of setting up the party and created unbelievably beautiful flower designs. Nothing would have been possible without the amazing support of our outstanding producers Dhana Gilbert @dhanagilbert , Nick Thomason @thomason.nick and Meghan Wicker @meghankwicker . CITY ON A HILL S.3 My favorite room in the Beacon Hill Mansion set ended up being the main bedroom, wich was designed in warm gold and orange hues with red mahogany doors, fireplace mantel and furniture with ebonized accents. CITY ON A HILL S.3 One thing that stood out to me when researching early 1990’s designs, was how many kitchens were kept in white and cream colors. I found so many advertisements and interior design magazines that featured these light and matchy-matchy kitchen designs, so I wanted to do that for our mansion set as well. All walls, the ceiling, furniture and casings were kept in different shades of cream, gray and off-whites to create an elegant and clean look but feel dated to today’s audience. Therefore clearly emphasize that the story takes place in the early 1990’s. CITY ON A HILL S.3 Elements of design One thing I really wanted for the parlor of the mansion was a mural-like wallpaper, which I took upon myself to design and paint in photoshop. I painted the individual elements - branches, leaves and wisteria blossoms and re-arranged them for the individual panels. This made each one of them unique but tied all of them together. The 3rd Season of Showtime’s CITY ON A HILL, on which I served as production designer, provided me with the opportunity to design a mansion in Boston’s upper class neighborhood of Beacon Hill in 1993. After intensive research, several trips to Boston, and a lot of inspiration from old Architectural Digest issues, I came up with a design that I believe reflected the characters’ personality and history. The mansion filled with artifacts from the families history was recently renovated and redecorated by the second wife of the patriarch. Her style adds some gaudy elements to the well established family home.
