I had the absolute honor of shooting the @balletdesmoines Glass Slipper Ball this spring. It was a whirl of an evening, inspired by the ability to be swept away by fairy tales, the best of friends, and the chance to make a difference in the arts.
Sometimes it helps to just sit for a minute and remember the snowflakes. The skyscrapers. The marvel of the Chicago Dog, Millennium Park and the moon jellies.
I have nothing figured out except for the meaning of it all.
A hedgehog is a spiny mammal of the subfamily Erinaceinae, in the eulipotyphlan family Erinaceidae. And for nearly three years, Dixie May was included as one within the Milne family.
Any series of google searches about hedgehogs would have taught us that cancer is a leading cause of death in hedgehogs. A simple search would show that any number of studies suggest approximately 2/3 of all pet hedgehogs develop tumors, particularly as they near age three.
But our then eight year old wasnโt researching causes of death when she was working on her research memo in support of hedgehog ownership nearly three years ago. Itโs a tricky thing to be at a vet appointment holding your 10 year old little girl, holding their nearly three year old little hedgehog, when you hear the word ๐ค๐ข๐ฏ๐ค๐ฆ๐ณ. When you hear the word ๐ต๐ถ๐ฎ๐ฐ๐ณ. When you hear the word ๐ณ๐ถ๐ฑ๐ต๐ถ๐ณ๐ฆ๐ฅ.
