Loomis would often try some different stuff with their factory surf rods, especially unique grips and reel seats.
They made this IMX Surf with a double-locking reel seat that allowed fishermen to customize how far above the butt they set their reel. It was pretty nifty, but would loosen after a bit. I ended up locking them in place with electrical tape.
I liked the big foregrip, but I remember the rod being a bit of a chore to load and to work plugs with, yet it had plenty of guts.

Without a doubt, my new favorite restaurant in Florida. Only 20 seats, local seafood specials, and a throwback feel. Meant to get a photo of the food but the competition for the cracked conch appetizer was fierce and I couldnt afford to let the phone eat first.

Launched the kayaks with @nick_onthewater for the last day of April and the last local freshwater trip of the spring.

It’s been a while since I had a hard copy of a fishing license that was more than just a simple printout. Really like the @massmarinefisheries hard card featuring the @charlielikeswater photograph. This may even become a cherished keepsake, like all the old PA trout Stamps my dad saved from the 1990s…depending on how the 2026 fishing season goes.

Glidebait roosters, squidtrex pargos, and soft bait AJs. The offshore fishing stole the show at @panamafishing , but the inshore action was no slouch.
That elusive cubera remains unchecked on my personal bucket list, but the sight of a big one tracking a @stridebaits before peeling off is something I will not soon forget.

I’ve been pretty vocal about my disdain for the Canyon Consolation Prize of mahi-mahi, but hooking one this size and seeing it vault a floating log is sure to change hearts and minds. Maybe I won’t be so fast to dismiss those High-Flyer drive-bys this season. Maybe.
