You might think Sadie actually works at the school these days. The amount of volunteering she’s been doing is pretty unreal—and she even goes into the reading lab once a week to help OTHER KIDS that aren’t ours! Her motherly instincts know no bounds! Loretta and PJ are paying attention, and if they grow up half as kind, warm, and fun as their mama I’d be beyond proud. @saywhatsaydee is the best decision I’ve made. ❤️❤️❤️ happy Mother’s Day cutie.

James Edmondson is MICA’s 2026 William O. Steinmetz ‘50 Designer in Residence. James is one of the world’s most intriguing type designers. His warm, bouncy typefaces combine meticulous craft, cutting-edge technology, and a joyful sense of humor. James is author of The Ohno Book: A Serious Guide to Irreverent Type Design, recently released by Princeton Architectural Press. He studied graphic design at California College of the Arts and type design at the Royal Academy of Art’s Type Media program in The Hague, Netherlands. With his fabulous comrades at OH no Type Co., based in San Jose, California, James creates custom and retail typefaces. Everything he does makes the written word a little bit happier.
The William O. Steinmetz Designer in Residence series was established by Betty Cooke and other friends of MICA in honor of this great artist, designer, teacher, and MICA alum.

Our family’s fun maker @saywhatsaydee has a birthday today! Imagining life without Sadie is pitiful thought. I’ve lived life with and without her, and with her is way better! I love the way she is constantly planning good times, looking for the positive in every situation, and saying yes to the things that make life worth living. I love how she organizes the bar fridge, her handwriting, and the face she makes when she looks in the mirror. I love how her glasses slip when she eats spicy food, how she can pick a perfect bottle of wine, and how she says “you got the wrong girl” when I tell her she’s beautiful. Happy birthday hunny. I love you always and forever! ❤️

Happy 7th birthday to my first born. The thing we’ve been working on lately is when she gets super upset about one thing she doesn’t have, usually a toy or a treat. I try and remind her of all the things she does have to be grateful for, with limited success. I realize this is as much a lesson for me as it is for her! She’s got a great community around her, a sugar addiction, and an affinity for arts and crafts. We have a lot in common! ❤️
Building the skate zone on the side of my house was a terrific idea. I’ve never exercised more in my adult life. Sweatin like a pig every day! And gradually locking in more often on my tail stalls. That is such a tricky thing to do, even on this tiny 2ft quarter pipe. Next up is like to try pivot fakies, but I’m so freaked out. I live to skate another day. -Uncle J Bone
Happy Mother’s Day to @saywhatsaydee ! A mom so great, so gorgeous, and so on top of everything that she made her reservation for Madonna Inn Mother’s Day Brunch. This display, complete with smoked salmon, prime rib, crab legs and everything else is a representation of Sadie herself: doing it all and looking good while she’s doing it! Love you always and forever!
Barely got one make but did not capture it. Axel stalls are a trick I never had at any age, so I was comforted to find the perfect size mini bowl at Fremont skatepark. A terrific park that was empty for a lot of the morning. I’m having so much fun with skating, and have been exercising more than I ever have in my adult life. No major spills—I live to skate another day. Thanks to @skateiq for the pointers, and especially a guy at the park that helped me a lot!
Made it home in time to celebrate my baby turning ✨ F O U R ✨! Happy Birthday to our silly, fiesty, independent, smart, adventurous little girl. We love you so much, Peej, and can’t wait to see what this next year brings 🎂 🎉 🎊
