Just about 1 year ago me and Rick were working at the record store full time. There was this day when we were waiting for a shipment of new Tiger designs to be delivered from a screen printer. These were designs we’d worked hard getting together and couldn’t wait to see how they’d turned out.
When they arrived we tore into the boxes like kids and what we saw broke our hearts. The colors were all wrong, the print quality was terrible, and there were even some sizes that had been left out.
This was the 3rd or 4th different print shop we’d gone through, and every time we’d been let down. Whether it was a quality issue, or the turnaround time sucked, or the prices were too high. The worst was how often the owners were just straight-up dicks. It was discouraging.
After some longggggg phone calls and conversations we decided that WE should open the printshop we were looking for. Run it the way a business should be run, with care, reliability and an eye on both quality and community, always.
Rick already knew his way around a press. Had been whipping up simple designs in his garage for years. We were lucky to have some homies who were even more experienced and willing to help school us on the many things we still needed to learn.
“Fuck it,” we said. “We’re doing this.”
From there we rolled up our sleeves and got to work. Rick has spent the last year, head down, working long shifts and sweating it out in a too-hot warehouse. Becoming skilled on the machinery and making sure that our first batch of customers were getting exactly what they asked for. That we were delivering on the promise we’d made: Great quality prints. Fair prices. Quick turnaround. And don’t be dickheads.
Now here we are, about to celebrate our first anniversary. We’re proud of how far we’ve come and can’t wait for the future.
Huge thanks to our homies and customers for their trust and support.
