Chicago Sinfonietta’s first violin section from yesterday’s performance. This week presented some challenging emotions. Due to financial difficulty yesterday might have been final performance of the Chicago Sinfinietta. I have been a member of the Orchestra for 34 years, so proud to be a part of the first violin. Indeed a large part of my musical identity has been shaped by collaborative moments playing masterpieces of the repertoire. The collective consciousness of an orchestra can change and heal the human spirit. The mission of the Sinfonietta was diversity and inclusion. My heart goes out to the talented that had recently won positions in the orchestra. I was on a couple of audition committees and I can tell you that these players represented the best and the brightest and would carry us into the future. This is a sad moment and we will all “carry on” but speaking for myself… I just need a minute.
We have a big Conjunto show coming up next Friday May 15, I have been getting the ticket reports every day and I am happy to see folks are buying tickets. We hope to see you there! Ticket link in the comments.

Yesterday I played a gig in Dixon Illinois. Yes, it is a bit of a drive but whenever I get out there I do my best to eat some BYY Fried Chicken. It’s one of those old school type of places. Most of the customers are on a first name basis with the owner and they only take cash. The Chicken….is amazing!
