When everyone you ever met is at your house, the music is too loud, people are eating YOUR snacks, and they’re talking over each other, but oh no! It looks like the dog needs to go out for a few hours. 🤷♂️

Check out just some of the cool spots we found on this BC island.
That magical detour? It only works if your car wants to take you there.
🔧💡 Before we left, we had Kal Tire check:
Tire pressure & tread
Brakes
Battery health
Fluids
It took 20 minutes—and gave us total peace of mind for all the miles we planned and lots we didn’t.
🛞 Pro tip: Just like snacks and playlists, car safety is part of the prep. Trust us, future-you (and your passengers) will thank you.
Right now, Kal Tire is giving away a set of Nokian tires as part of their #CanadianPitStop giveaway! Snap some photos of the stops you’re visiting this summer along the way to your road trip destinations, and check out @kaltire ’s pinned giveaway post before the end of the month over to learn how to enter to win.

How are parents supposed to manage a 9-5 job while also being there for their children? Early pickup at 2:15pm? School’s out at 3pm! Parent teacher conferences at 1pm-2pm, and surprise! Another pro-d day on a random Monday or Friday.
Then spring break and summer vacation where the kids need something to do for 6 weeks. Fun camp signups? That’ll be $300-$400 per week.
Was it always like this?

Honey the dog is happy to get up at 5am and go for a lovely walk. At least my daughter is having a sleep in. Didn’t it used to be the other way around??
I guess we’ll get our steps in early then.
I keep thinking about this as my daughter gets older.
She’s going to have moments where life feels messy. Maybe she makes a bad decision. Maybe she’s embarrassed. Maybe she’s anxious, overwhelmed, or scared to disappoint me.
In those moments, I don’t want fear to be the thing that stops her from coming to me.
That’s changed how I think about parenting.
I still believe in boundaries, consequences, and guidance. Kids need those things. But I’m also realising that my reactions matter more than I used to think. If every hard conversation feels like anger, panic, or shame, eventually, kids stop bringing those conversations home.
I’m trying to become the kind of dad who can stay steady enough that honesty feels safer than hiding.
Not perfect, but always safe.
Some days I get that right. Some days I don’t. But I think a lot of modern dads are trying to break patterns they grew up with while learning in real time themselves.
And maybe that effort matters more than we realise.

Sorry, can’t go out this weekend my calendar is all booked up - get it? BOOKed up? Don’t call me, don’t text, I’m reading Dungeon Crawler Carl and eating snacks. Actually, I think I have to go furniture shopping, but that’s only to get comfy chairs to read my book in.

Being a good dad is all about little adventures. Not much planning, plenty of snacks and sunscreen, and figuring out the rest when we get there. And NO SCREENS! Where will you go this weekend?

Mother’s Day is Sunday, May 10th and you can’t just leave it up to the kids to make it special. If you become a Dad, you’re now in charge of all the things that Moms NEED. and trust me, they’re looking forward to this.
1. Handle the logistics all by yourself. MAKE A LIST!
2. Have options - in case of weather, traffic, everything else.
3. Get the kids ready (make a game of it, bribe them - whatever it takes to make things go smoothly).
4. Make a show of visibly thanking her in front of the kids and get them to join in.
5. Fail to prepare, prepare to fail. Get the house ready. Do the laundry, do the dishes, get the kids’ special outfits ready or whatever they need.
6. Book the brunch, order the flowers, make and write a card. Buy the ingredients for something at home.
7. If she decides she now wants a quiet day to read, do an activity, hang out somewhere without the kids - no drama - quick change of plans and you and the children are out the door until you’re welcomed back. Again, be ready with the bribes and backup backup plans.
Easy, right?
