Some food pics from Marsala. Fish are key to Marsala's heritage and cuisine, particularly the red tuna which spawn just offshore 🐟 #siciliaenprimeur2026 #marsala

Palermo's soul is captivating. A heady mix of art, architecture, food, politics and history, which only really starts to come alive in the late afternoon and well into the night! 🍸 What a place! #siciliaenprimeur #siciliaenprimeur2026 #palermo

What better way to prepare for the mayhem of Vinitaly than a day at Summa? Alois Lageder knows how to run an event - they've been doing this for over a quarter of a century. Combine glorious sunshine (it seems to happen every year; they must have a hotline to the weather gods...) with chilled beats, artisanal bites and over 100 of Europe's most renowned wineries in the sustainable/ biodynamic space (think Bisci, Gravner, Foradori, Ampeleia, Elena Fucci, I Vigneri, Frank Cornelissen, Arianna Occhipinti, Franz Keller, Tarlant...and of course Alois Lageder). Then top it off with a cool Pilsner and life is good 😎

As one winemaker put it, the 2024 vintage of Chianti Classico will be the litmus test to see if lighter bodied, lower alcohol red wines are really what drinkers want. Rather than a stylistic decision, it has been forced upon the entire area as a result of the weather conditions. Some wines are coming in as low as 12.5% abv, giving them an almost Valpolicella feel with their wonderfully vibrant cherry red fruits. Some wineries who typically use more oak may find it a bit trickier, as there is often not enough fruit to balance the wood. But ultimately, it's a unique year where nature has provided what we've all been calling for. Pic 1: Emanuele Reolon - Isole e Olena Pic 2: Sofia Ricasoli launched a new project last year, vinified at the Ricasoli estate. A Chianti Classico Riserva, and a multi-vintage Sangiovese-Merlot blend. Pic 3: Maddalena Fucile of Cigliano do Sopra. This year they launch a brand new Gran Selezione using all destemmed fruit, unlike the 100% whole-bunch Riserva. Pic 4: Somms working hard at the journalist tables. #chianticlassico #annata2024

A visit under the beautiful Maremma sunshine yesterday to Fattoria Le Pupille. Elisabette Geppetti's son, Ettore - plus his sidekick Achilles - opened up some of the new vintages, which all have a crystalline purity and sparkle to them. Their Saffredi 2022 was one of Decanter's Italian Wines of the Year for 2025, and the 2023 should blossom wonderfully too with a bit more time. And their Morellino Riserva has been one of my favourite affordable Sangioveses for a while now. #maremmatoscana #saffredi #lepupille @fattorialepupille__official @decanter

What a privilege to visit Tua Rita and taste through some of their beautiful range of wines with Giovanni (3rd generation of the family) and Tommaso (winemaker), including some stunning back vintages from 1997, 2005, 2007, 2011 and 2016. The '97s were picked by Giovanni's father, Stefano, in honour of Giovanni and Tommaso's birth year - they have known each other since they were children. And check out the incredible decor! #tuarita #redigaffi #tuscanwine @tua_rita @decanter

During and after the rain in Bolgheri, at the new Tenuta Meraviglia winery, built into a disused quarry in the hills. #bolgheriwine @bolgheri_bolgherisassicaia_doc @tenutameraviglia
