What is the association of endometriosis with ovarian cancer risk? In this population-based cohort study, women with #Endometriosis had a fourfold increased risk of #OvarianCancer compared with those without endometriosis. The risk was particularly elevated among patients with deep infiltrating endometriosis or ovarian endometriomas. Associations were most pronounced for endometrioid and clear cell ovarian cancer histotypes, indicating that severe endometriosis may be associated with higher risk of these specific tumor types. These findings support consideration of individualized counseling and prevention strategies for patients with severe endometriosis. đź”— Read the full JAMA article via our link in bio.

A randomized clinical trial assessed hearing aid service models and technology levels among patients with mild to moderate hearing loss. Audiologist-fitted prescription hearing aids resulted in better patient outcomes than both over-the-counter (OTC) and hybrid OTC+ service models, although all models yielded generally positive results. No significant differences were observed between high-end and low-end hearing aid technologies for patient-reported outcomes. JAMA Otolaryngology—Head & Neck Surgery Editor in Chief Jay F. Piccirillo, MD, selected this study as one of the best clinical trials published in JAMA Otolaryngology in 2025, highlighting its rigor, timeliness, and actionability following the federal availability of OTC hearing aids in 2022. These findings inform clinical decision-making and illustrate how rigorous research can shape clinical practice. How can clinicians and researchers stay up to date on the most clinically relevant trials? JAMA+ Trials highlights the implications and innovations of clinical trial research from across the JAMA Network to advance evidence-based medicine and public health. What is reinforcement learning? It's a type of #MachineLearning where #AI learns by trial and error optimizing decisions based on rewards. Reinforcement learning is used in robotics, drug discovery, personalized medicine, and increasingly in training large language models. đź”— Visit JAMA+ AI via our link in bio to get access to the most advanced science and news in the clinical applications of AI.

🦟 #Chikungunya is a disease caused by a #virus that is transmitted to humans primarily through the bite of infected #mosquitoes. Chikungunya-transmitting mosquitoes are typically located in tropical and subtropical regions but can also be found in more temperate climates. Geographic areas with chikungunya virus have expanded recently due to several factors, including climate-related warming (improves mosquito survival and expands their habitat) and variations in the virus that increase the ability of mosquitoes to spread the virus. Increased global travel also has introduced chikungunya virus into new regions when infected travelers return home and are bitten by mosquitoes that locally transmit the virus. Chikungunya virus infection occurs in up to 35 million people each year, and outbreaks have occurred in more than 100 countries. This JAMA Patient Page describes how chikungunya virus infection is acquired and provides information on the diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis for patients. 🔗 Learn more about chikungunya via our link in bio.

Recent innovations in #obesity care have expanded the range of available therapies. Lifestyle interventions, including nutrition and physical activity, remain central, while surgical and pharmaceutical treatments such as #BariatricSurgery and newer medications, including #semaglutide and #tirzepatide, may achieve greater weight reduction. As the treatment landscape evolves, ongoing development of additional therapies raises important questions about how to select the most appropriate approach for individual patients, how best to integrate new and established modalities, and how to ensure access for those who may benefit. At this inflection point, the #JAMASummit on Obesity convenes global, cross-sector leaders to examine key scientific advances and develop actionable strategies to translate emerging evidence into improved care, health outcomes, and population impact. ➡️ Follow JAMA for the forthcoming Summit report and call for papers. 🔗 Learn more about the #JAMASummit on Obesity via our link in bio.

Among patients undergoing elective midline #laparotomy, continuous small-bites fascial closure significantly reduced the long-term incidence and size of incisional #hernias compared with large-bites closure. At 13 years, the cumulative incidence of incisional #hernia was 34% in the small-bites group vs 49% in the large-bites group, with clinically significant hernias (>20 mm) also halved. Hernias that developed after small-bites closure were smaller and progressed more slowly, supporting small-bites as the standard practice for abdominal wall closure. đź”— Read the full paper published in JAMA Surgery via our link in bio.

Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (#ALS) is a neurodegenerative disease characterized by progressive weakness due to degeneration of upper motor neurons in the brain and lower motor neurons in the brainstem and spinal cord. No curative therapies exist. Two oral medications, riluzole and edaravone, are approved by the FDA and modestly decrease disease progression in sporadic ALS. Tofersen, an intrathecally administered gene-based therapy, is also FDA approved and slows disease progression in patients with SOD1 pathogenic gene variants. This JAMA Review summarizes current evidence regarding the diagnosis and treatment of ALS. đź”— Access the full article via our link in bio.

📰 #MedNews: New blood tests claim to screen for more than 50 types of #cancer, raising hopes for earlier diagnoses and better outcomes. But how useful are these multicancer early detection tests? Although they’re already on the market and generating buzz, evidence of their real-world benefit is still sparse. 🔗 Read more via our link in bio.

Emerging therapies are reshaping #Obesity treatment, but substantial challenges persist regarding access, equity, and real-world impact. As global rates of #Obesity continue to rise, clinical advances must translate into improved health outcomes. In this video, JAMA and JAMA Network Editor in Chief Kirsten Bibbins-Domingo, PhD, MD, MAS, explains why this moment represents a turning point for obesity care. The #JAMASummit on Obesity will convene cross-disciplinary experts to identify actionable priorities for the next 1 to 2 years. 📌 Follow JAMA for the forthcoming Summit report and call for papers. Hantaviruses are a group of viruses that spread to humans through exposure to rodents. People typically develop #hantavirus infection from exposure to the infected urine, saliva, or droppings of rodents, usually rats and mice. The risk of infection is highest among people who clean, work, play, or live in spaces with infected dried rodent droppings and urine. Rarely, hantavirus infection can be acquired through rodent bites or scratches or by eating contaminated food. Hantavirus symptoms and severity depend on the specific virus causing infection. Symptoms typically begin at least 1 week after viral exposure but may take up to 8 weeks to appear. 📌 This JAMA Patient Page describes hantavirus infection and the syndromes it can cause, as well as treatment options and prevention measures. 🔗 Read the full Patient Page via our link in bio.

#HepatitisBvirus (HBV) infection affects an estimated 254 million people worldwide and causes approximately 1.1 million deaths annually. In 2022, there were approximately 1.2 million new HBV infections worldwide and 14 000 in the US. This JAMA review discusses current evidence on the epidemiology, virology, pathogenesis, clinical presentation, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of hepatitis B virus infection, with a focus on evidence applicable to clinical practice. đź”— Read the full article via our link in bio.
