Was sweating in Vietnam during the first storm of the year… so I wasn’t missing this one. Walked through the blizzard with frozen fingers and this song in repeat :)

Idk maybe there’s more or less underscores 🤷♂️
Anyway I’m calling this “Stranger in Saigon”
I was walking around Ho Chi Minh City thinking it would be cool to do a shoot inspired by Grab drivers hanging out on their scooters. Then i saw this guy coming out of a shop and bam there ya go.
When I walked into the kiln area, I watched the workers load these massive structures completely by hand. The women at the bottom fed bricks onto a moving track nonstop, and the team up top grabbed them as they arrived. They couldn’t miss a single one or it would hit the ground and shatter. I was standing there thinking, I would definitely miss a few.
After the kilns are packed to the roof, the openings get sealed and the whole thing is fired for hours. One of the workers told me they do this twice a day, which honestly blew my mind. It explained why the air was always warm and why everyone moved with this calm, steady focus.
Being there and watching the whole process unfold made me appreciate how much sweat and coordination goes into something as ordinary as a brick. 🧱

I spent a few weeks exploring different parts of Vietnam, but this photo series comes from the “Red Kingdom”, a brick making village in Vinh Long.
I rented a scooter and rode an hour out of Can Tho with no tour guide and some hope.
After wandering through a few workshops, I met this group of women who were absolutely flying through brick production. They were understandably a little confused about why a random guy showed up with a camera, but they were kind and let me hand around.
These ladies work on cutting down the big blocks into tiles. Then it gets stacked into pillars for air drying. Watching how each brick moved from station to station was strangely calming and honestly fascinating.
I’ve got so much to share but next post will cover the kiln firing process.
Thanks for reading ✌️😗
