Lovely mess of a percussion set I compiled during the recording of "Biwa.." soundtrack.
Drums, self built piezo-noise box, huge handful of different mallets and sticks from my friend Lauri, and a bamboo marimba-balaphon kind of thing I got for free from fb marketplace. Just stumbled upon it and thought why not. It is wonderful, whole construction is made out of bamboo, its not the most exact or professional instrument, but it has totally its own voice. Musically it fits with everything but tunes with nothing. And for me it grew to a character in itself.
Im not very educated in exotic tunings etc. but it has a wonderful scale of e2-f#-a*-b-c#-e-f#-g#*-a#*-b*-d# (*some cents higher or lower)
which is weirdly multi-tonal in western sense, but really natural sounding on the instrument itself, even as cluster-chords. Even just bashing around on it with my kid was loads of fun.

May 2023, making of "8 views of lake Biwa" soundtrack. Since the movie takes place in a parallel made-up realm where Japan meets east- estonian village-life, I tried to find quite alien but at the same time familiar, folky, ancient kind of sounds.
Prepared guitar and a noise-box did the job quite nicely.
