It’s always a good experience documenting a photographer, especially one who lives behind the camera herself. Four years later, in new light, these images make me smile. Chicago, IL. October 2019. Old Style. Almost notoriously, I find myself late to the party when it comes to sharing work, and in this case, I’m about six years late. At that point, you start to wonder if a piece even holds a shred of relevance anymore. Likely no, but the story goes on. This icy, blustery start to winter 2025 jogged my memory as I had all but forgotten this commercial job. These Old Style spots were goofy as hell; a tongue-in-cheek homage to Chi-beria. Our talent @mrleerussell played a hardened, snowpocalypse recluse broadcasting his barren thoughts into a frozen Chicago wasteland… and honestly, I’m still surprised they let this thing air. Plenty of shriveled innuendos and a set design that implied HEAVY overconsumption. Yes, yes, six years late! Our lovely Josh Binder and I even managed to get the fire department called because we pushed the hazer a little too far. MORE HAZE, baby! Chicago, IL. September 2024. Peet’s Coffee (1 of 2). This commercial for Pete’s @peetscoffee was extra special because we got to cast two of our friends as leads in the spot. My guy, Brian Golden @dovie_golden , featured here in this post 1 of 2, showcasing his talent and beautiful eye for color and aesthetic. The work that he does is captivating and bold, from the size of the canvas to the saturation of colors to the motive behind it all. It reminds me of a saxophone in a rock band - once you know it and feel it, you can’t imagine a band without it. In the time we spent together I was able to learn more about his inspiration and process. It’s solidified not just the appreciation and respect I have for him as an artist but as a friend as well. Chicago, IL. December 2024. The coldest day of last year happened to be the only time the three of us could all be in Chicago at the same time. We roughed it in subzero weather for a sunrise engagement photo shoot for some of my best friends. The adventures of Jumbo (me) and Tiny (Mike) abound, but this post isn’t really about all of that. Paros, Greece. October, 2024. A year ago I had the privilege of taking my dad to Greece for his 70th birthday. It was one of the best trips both of our lives. We did very little. We walked, we conversed, we ate and we watched life move slowly. I brought four rolls of film for the week and a half that we were there. That’s roughly 44 shots. Lately, I’ve been finding a lot of joy in shooting stills again, just for me. But it is even better to have a limit and choose a moment to savor, not perfect and capture.
