Jake Longstreth’s solo exhibition, ‘Where We’re Going We Need Roads’, is currently on view in our Berlin gallery at Bleibtreustaße 45, until 25 April.     In his new works on paper, Longstreth layers close-up views of swaying eucalyptus leaves over the dissolving distances of a grey LA day. They appear in a wide register of colours: cool mints, warm olives, muted browns, pumpkin oranges, and unexpected magentas. The works provide a space for testing improvised composition. Longstreth’s leafy forms are painted swiftly, without revision: on paper there is only a single opportunity.    Images 1-2: Installation view: Jake Longstreth, ‘Where We’re Going We Need Roads’, Galerie Max Hetzler, Berlin, 2026 Image 3: Jake Longstreth, ‘Eucalyptus Leaves 6’, 2026, oil on paper, 61 x 40.6 cm.; 24 x 16 in., 70 x 52 x 3.5 cm.; 27 1/2 x 20 1/2 x 1 3/8 in. OPENING TODAY: Jake Longstreth’s solo exhibition, ‘Where We’re Going We Need Roads’, opens today, 13 March, in our Berlin gallery at Bleibtreustraße 45.  Please join us for the opening, from 6 – 8pm.    The highways that thread through these paintings quietly anchor the exhibition’s title, ‘Where We’re Going We Need Roads’, a phrase that reverses the famous closing declaration from Robert Zemeckis’ film ‘Back to the Future’, 1985. Despite decades of innovation, and the promise of autonomous mobility, movement remains tethered to one of humanity’s most enduring inventions: the wheel. And the wheel, inevitably, requires roads.    Installation view: Jake Longstreth, ‘Where We’re Going We Need Roads’, Galerie Max Hetzler, Berlin, 2026     #MaxHetzler #GalerieMaxHetzler #JakeLongstreth @jake_longstreth #WhereWereGoingWeNeedRoads

OPENING FRIDAY: Jake Longstreth’s solo exhibition, ‘Where We’re Going We Need Roads’, opens in our Berlin gallery at Bleibtreustraße 45 this Friday, 13 March. Please join us for the opening, from 6 – 8pm.    The paintings in the exhibition emphasise depth and spatial layering, moving away from flattened architectural space and focusing instead on carefully observed, lovingly rendered leaves and plants. Nature and infrastructure coexist in delicate proximity, each sharpening the presence of the other.    Image: Jake Longstreth, ‘La Crescenta’, 2025, oil on canvas, 214 x 305 cm.; 84 1/4 x 120 1/8 in., 215.9 x 307.3 x 6 cm.; 85 x 121 x 2 3/8 in. OPENING SOON: Jake Longstreth’s solo exhibition, ‘Where We’re Going We Need Roads’, opens in our Berlin gallery at Bleibtreustraße 45, on Friday, 13 March. Please join us for the opening, from 6 – 8pm.     Across the works in the exhibition, roads persist, always present in the distance, carrying the implied ambient hum of traffic. Even in elevated, seemingly remote places, there is a constant din: ‘to live here like we do, we need roads,’ Longstreth explains, ‘but of course, the paintings are silent.’    Image: Jake Longstreth, ‘Above the Glendale Freeway’, 2025, oil on canvas, 213.4 x 142.2 cm.; 84 x 56 in., 215.9 x 144.8 cm.; 85 x 57 in. UPCOMING: Galerie Max Hetzler is pleased to announce Jake Longstreth’s solo exhibition, ‘Where We’re Going We Need Roads’, opening in our Berlin gallery at Bleibtreustraße 45, on 13 March 2026.    Across new oil on canvas paintings and works on paper from 2025 and 2026, Longstreth depicts distant highways punctuated by tiny, ant-like cars, amidst vast, hazy expanses. The works are foregrounded by an abundance of trees and plants – California buckwheat, red-berried toyons, lilacs, manzanita, canyon oaks, and eucalyptus – registering seasonal shifts from spring’s unexpected verdancy to autumn’s brittle dryness underfoot.    Image: Artist studio, 2026    #MaxHetzler #GalerieMaxHetzler #JakeLongstreth @jakelongstrethstudio #WhereWereGoingWeNeedRoads
