Despite the unprecedented construction happening over at @nvmastudio due to flooding (ugh), I have some fun free workshops incoming starting this evening! Trying to get better at this social media thing 😅 Tonight i’ll be hanging out at @lmedmontonmayfield at 7pm going over my processes (see slide 2) and making a tune on the spot. If it’s good enough maybe I’ll put it on soundcloud 😂 This Thursday our friends at @double_dragon_double_dragon have allowed us to move the @fatherfunk workshop to their beautiful space. Come hang from 7-9pm at Double Dragon for a production & AMA with Father Funk & next week on April 3 we have @horsebreaker coming through NVMA for a songwriting workshop! We’re hoping NVMA will be back in action (with new floors!) by then 🤞 if not, this will be hosted at 9910 6-8pm. Hope to see some of you over the next couple weeks. There is always more to learn when it comes to music production 🫡 Our Production course is designed for all skill levels. Whether you’re just starting out and diving into Level 1, or you’re already releasing tracks and want to focus on foley and recording techniques in Level 3, there’s something for everyone. Obviously, we’re biased, but if there’s one person whose advice we trust-it’s Jake’s. Scroll through for a couple of pieces of simple advice we’ve collected from Jake over the years that are tried and true for making you a better producer. You could watch a million YouTube tutorials, and it always comes down to this: don’t sweat the small stuff, practice makes perfect, & don’t stop creating. Some more fun facts about Jake, for the procrastinator or the curious scroller: • He’s read the Ableton manual front to back. More than once! • He first learned a DAW to record his junior high punk bands, and his high school band, Shadowblade. • he hasn’t always been Team Ableton. Jake started in Cubase > Fruity Loops > Logic > Ableton > Logic > & finally back to Ableton. If you have a question about any DAW, chances are he can answer it for you! But he’ll also tell you to switch to Ableton 😉 • His favourite genres are Metal, Dancehall, & Maribou State (not a genre but might as well be). • His grandma & mom are excellent pianists, so Jake also grew up playing piano, & has taken Royal Conservatory Music exams up to grade 5! At which point he switched to guitar because.. metal 🤘 • He’ll talk your ear off about anything music related all day.
