It’s World Water Week! I’m joining Extinction Rebellion’s
@dirtywatercampaign and making a vow to honour and protect the Bristol River Avon, the waterbody that’s held and shaped my own body.
Every single river in the UK is polluted and we only have access to 3% of our riverbanks. Rivers are not a resource to simply take from, they’re not property but are living entities with the right to thrive and be protected.
I’m so grateful to my friend
@jaefrederick for this two-hour submerged photoshoot by Warleigh Weir. Our teeth were chattering but I’m in awe of how he’s captured the majesty of this dying river and all that it holds for me – memory, grief, renewal.
My poetry book SCULLING is now available to pre-order!!! Link in bio!! I’ve waited a very long time to say that! This book explores my relationship with the Avon and will be published on National Poetry Day, Oct 2nd, by
@littlebrownbookgroup_uk .
Join
@raveonfortheavon and
@weareavon1 in the fight for Avon to be granted personhood status. The gorgeous
@mrs_meg_avon has led the way by marrying our beloved Avon and birthing
@theavonas .
Rivers deserve guardians. They deserve a human voice. They deserve vows. So next spring, on March 22nd 2026 – World Water Day – there will be a World Water Wedding. A chance for anyone to enter into an open relationship with the river: in sickness and in health, for as long as we live.
In solidarity and silt. 💚
