�Asymmetry can be a solution to your problem. A slightly different EQ on each side would help create a wider stereo image.
Though multiple EQs seem to be used, this is one passive shelf EQ with only one amplifier to recoup the gain loss, following the legacy of Doug Sax and the Mastering Lab.
