We said goodbye to Bart on Sunday. He was loved by and loved many.A truly special creature masquerading as a dog. I could easily write pages and pages about what he meant to me but instead I’ll keep it short and to the point:

Self portraits (with help from @labellecevre ) of various stages of my back piece by @pauldobleman . We started in January 2024 and ended June 2025. Mostly done at @blackhearttattoo . Paul is the best. It was a really fun and at times challenging experience. Couldn’t be more stoked.
1. 8x10 Ambrotype (image on glass) scanned as a glass negative. Finished piece.
2. 8x10 tintype (on metal) diptych. Mid way through.
3. 8x10 bw negative. A few sessions in.
4. Medium format bw light leaky negative. 1 session in.

Christian was a weirdo. He had a million interests that somehow he could make your interests. He found humor in totally mundane things and you’d laugh along with him even if you could never quite explain what made that situation funny. When it came to work he locked in. Whether he was bartending, working on the water or at the hospital, he was in the zone. That’s something I always admired.
As serious as he could be about work, he was just as serious about friendship. I always felt loved and supported by him, whether we were sitting next to each-other in high school or separated by thousands of miles as adults. I never doubted he’d be there for me if and when I needed him. For as eager as he was to be there for friends and family, he was private. You sometimes had to pry to get him to open up and when he did it felt special because you knew he was letting you in. I wish I had pried more, especially recently.
I’ve been hesitant to make this post. Mostly because making a public display of something deeply personal like grief kind of freaks me out. However, at the end of the day, I want the world to know about my friend and that’s a whole lot more important than any hang ups I have about social media. This doesn’t capture even a percent of what I want to say about Christian, I’m still processing. In the mean time I’m going listen to some Steely Dan (can’t say I’m a fan, but I’m trying) and watch airplanes fly by.

Impromptu one year anniversary photo sesh. I can’t express how stoked I am for @chefjackgoode , @kotabella , @_nickmonica and the whole @companion.la crew. One year of delicious food and greats hangs down, many more to go!
The best neighbors: @mollycorkins , @olvadyl and Pop! Super happy we were able to make these tintypes earlier this year before Olivia and Pop made their move to WI.
