A year and a half ago, all I knew was I wanted to do something big. I made a bed in my car, planned, packed, and left Minnesota on a long road trip, spending a week at a time in different cities.
My time on the road was spent listening to comedy podcasts. After hundreds of hours of driving and listening to comedy legends discuss their journeys, I decided I might try writing some jokes.
As I neared Washington DC and made some friends at a local bar (slide 5), I mustered some courage and found an irish pub with an open mic. It was an instant click from the first laugh I got, and I continued writing and hitting open mics on my long drive home.
When I returned to Minnesota I did more mics, but I knew I wanted to be somewhere bigger. And I kept hearing about a big comedy scene getting bigger down in Austin, Texas. I'd already made one bold move that paid off, why not do it again?
And with that boldness continuing, I decided to sign up for KillTony right when I got here, thinking I would just free-ball some story if I just so happened to get picked. Then I got picked... and bombed in front of Jeff Ross and Dave Attell 😅.
It was a bummer. My little joke book literally said "STOP✋" on the back. But I wasn't bummed for too long that day. I had met so many people in that alley behind Mothership that told me their journeys, highs and lows, new and old stories, and as a six-month comic, I felt reassured and fueled up.
Six more months have gone by since then. All of my friends are comics and I wouldn't want it any other way. I moved in with comics, I spend at least a few nights every week hanging out with comics, and I've been to hundreds of open mic nights.
And now, I've gotten a second chance to show a comedy legend what I've made of. Luckily, me and
@stavvybaby2 are both made of 90% lard 🤣
Tomorrow night at 8pm catch me on KillTony. Shout-out to all my friends and comics who have supported me🫡
