Wow. We are simply in awe of the support we have received through the GoFundMe that our dear friend Morgan Lynn Sterrett-Roate set up for us. We are beyond grateful and eagerly await the day we can pay it forward to future friends in need. Words cannot express the amount of relief we feel as this generosity fills a gap between what insurance will cover and what we will have to supply to rebuild or relocate.
Reaching our most ambitious goal in less than 24 hours is unbelievable. While we initially set out to raise $7,500, we quickly surpassed that figure and were encouraged to raise it. We met our new goal of $10,000 a couple hours later and decided to raise it one final time to $15,000. We’ve now met that goal and are done campaigning, though we will leave the GoFundMe open in case anyone still wants to help. This is the power of community. We are steeping ourselves in the truth of that power, holding onto it so that we don’t forget.
Thanks to you, we have been able to keep ourselves in motion, taking new steps each day towards recovery. Today, we are doing well and feel positive about what the future holds. It’s still going to be a long journey, but we know we can make it through because we have such beautiful, incredible people like you in our lives. Last night, we sat down and read aloud the names of everyone who contributed their time, money, or energy to our cause. We will never forget your kindnesses.

Hey everyone.
First of all, we are all safe and that is truly what matters most.
A week ago today, our lives changed forever when we lost our home in a fire. George and Hunter were inside sleeping but managed to escape with no injuries. While a lot of healing has happened since last Thursday, we know we have a long road to recovery ahead.
Thank you all for reaching out to me and Hunter. Your support has meant the world to us - at times, it’s been quite literally all we have. We love our community, love our friends and family, love our neighbors in Ivanhoe, and we know with your help we will get through this difficult moment.
Things look different today than they did last week but we are every day counting our blessings, holding each other tight, and picking up the pieces. Thank you for standing by us in whatever way you can.

My dear friends and family,
Yesterday at 7:50am our house suffered from a a major fire. Myself, Hunter, and little George are safe with no injuries. We have pretty much lost all worldly possessions, but what’s more important is that we have each other to get through this. We are still in complete shock and taking everything minute by minute. We are definitely in need of support, but currently figuring out the specifics. It’s truly just pure devastation.
Currently, we are headed out of town for a wedding. We chose to keep our travel plans because at this moment, anywhere is better and there’s really not much else to do. We will have more information this coming Monday as to what we might need help with. We are so thankful for all of you and we love you so much.
This morning, I was deeply inspired by the secret street photographer, Vivian Maier. I couldn’t help but get out and do some street photography of my own. The fixed square crop is fun and challenging at the same time…now I just want to get my hands on a Rolleiflex! Check out the documentary “ Finding Vivian Maier.”
