From various places in Java: Plant at the end of hotel corridor, stain glass window on back of loading truck with my elbow in frame, child threw train window, cheap led aquarium lights, the road to a volcano, catching shrimp, washing our spoons after makan siang. #streetphotography #indonesia #capture #documentary #yellow

Pak Senajo and friends. Photographed on the foothills of a volcano. Senajo is Tenggerese - an indigenous sub group of the Javanese people, who predominantly live around Mount Bromo. They are the last ethnic Javanese group to practice Hinduism. It is believed they are the descendants of the Majapahit Empire which once included much of modern day Malaysia and Indonesia.

Series from various pet markets across Java, Indonesia. To many Westerners the markets seem like a cruel design. Animals are brought from across Indonesia and wider Asia, caged and sold to buyers, with many dying during transportation or while waiting for someone to buy them. For locals keeping a pet is a deeply ingrained cultural source of pride. Animals are often displayed in the front of their homes or business. To many their pets are also status symbol. With poverty being widespread, a bird in a cage can show a family’s standing and perceived value. This is only half the story. I am interested in going and documenting the pet owners themselves and see how they care for their animals and see what an animals life looks like after the markets. 1. Surabaya. A baby macaque is chained to a concrete bucket outside of a shop. These monkeys are caught from the nearby island of Maduro and transported to Surabaya. 2. Bandung. People walking through a popular bird market in Bandung city. 3. Yogyakarta. A child looks at baby colour- dyed chicks 4. Surabaya. A bird seller packs up his store for the day. 5. Surabaya. Cats, hens and doves in cages. 6. Bandung. A baby eagle for sale. 7. Bandung. A sugar glider is handled by their seller. 8. Surabaya. Bird cages for sale stacked in the back alleys of the market. 9. Surabaya. A dead finch lying to rest in their food tray. #documentaryphoto #animalmarket #pets #indonesia

Scenes from the pro regime change side of the Iranian protest in Hyde Park last Saturday. Only a couple hundred meters away, at Town Hall, protesters demonstrated against the current war in the Middle East and Australia’s support for the war. However, the Hyde Park protest had a celebratory feeling. While protesters feared for their families back home, many were happy with the US/Israel efforts for a regime change. I went to this as a part of a masterclass this weekend with @flavio.brancaleone . His class started with a portfolio critique then some advice on making better shots. Shooting the protest with Flavio was great, he was constantly there to support and give advice.

Wrapped shooting up at the Tamworth Country Music Festival last week. The festival, held annually, feels more akin to a pilgrimage for Australian country culture lovers. Needless to say it was fun to shoot, so many intresting characters to stop and have a yarn with. 1. A cowboy hat is almost mandatory at the festival. No rules on size or shape. 2. Folks watching the concert on the main stage in Bicentenial park. With no chairs set up people have to bring their own camping chairs or blankets. - - - - @tcmf_official #tcmf #portrait #country #documentary

Last October I had the privilege to join NITV as they headed to Uluru to make a doco on the 40th anniversary of the Uluru hand back. We experienced desert thunderstorms and fly swarms with long days of labour under the outback sun. It was all worth it in the end to get a chance to spend time in this incredible landscape embracing Tjukurpa, and spending time getting to know some of the Anangu people. As part of 2026 I’m wanting to start writing again and working on more projects that mean something to me. In that effect, I’ve started a sub stack where I may post every now and then on behind the scenes things from work, stories from adventures, photos, videos and whatever comes my way. Hopefully this will push me to start making more :) I’ve written a little bit more about this trip on there and I’d love it if you read it and would love it even more if you let me know what you think. 1. Uluru on the second evening of our trip. 2. Seeing Uluru for the first time on the horizon platform. 3. Rima and Belinda holding a scrim for the host as the winds pick up. 4. DoP Ben at work. 5. Also DoP Ben also at work. 6. ‘Lucas’ - Painted on a building in the community of Mutitjulu. 7. Storm hits the hotel. 8. Landing at Connellan airport. 9. Valley of the wind in Kata-Tjuta just after sunrise.

Covered the Bondi shooting today. 15 have been killed and many more are injured in last night. Members of the community have been at the pavilion all day, laying wreaths singing songs and trying their best to support each other. - - - - #bondi #auspol
