Story Time⌠Lost In The Night has just become my first song to hit 25 million streams. This is a special one for me for a few reasons, so I thought it would be fun to share whyâŚ
I wrote the first draft with
@markmcneilage and
@mariacmusic . I first met Maria back in 2019 (see the last picture!!) when I was studying at The Songwriting Academy, where she was one of the mentors on the course. She is a legend! She wrote âWaiting For Tonightâ for Jennifer Lopez, amongst many other hits for Sabrina Carpenter, Celine Dion etc. She has lived it, and she is one of the best lyricists Iâve ever met. We first properly spoke when Maria liked a song I had co-written and we ended up re-writing it together and then I flew to London to record it, and she then showed it to Disney who signed it. (Itâs still technically on hold with Disney lol, if they want to use it in the next Frozen film or something I wouldnât say noâŚ). Thanks for all your encouragement and belief
@mariacmusic . 2019 Jack would be absolutely buzzing that heâd one day co-write a hit with you.
We then kept in touch and 4 years later in summer 2023, Maria messaged to say she was going to be in Scotland if
@markmcneilage and I fancied doing some writing. So we went through to her Airbnb in Edinburgh during the Fringe Festival. Something must have been in the water that day, because we wrote âLost in the Nightâ AND âWriting on the Wallâ on the same day. As well as a 3rd song too. Songwriting is a weird and wonderful thing!! Scroll for a couple of vids with dodgey singing while we figured out the melody đ¤Ł
Through my publishers and manager, the song then found its way to
@thierryvonderwarth and he and
@lenjimusic took what we had done initially to a new level.
It then became the start of a wonderful relationship with the team at
@paraiso.music , who encouraged me to start my Jack David project with this song as the starting point. So far weâve had almost 100m streams together, and thereâs plenty more music to come. Thanks guys, youâre the best đŞ Thanks to my manager
@88musicmgmt too.
This song really shows that when brilliant people come together, it can be really special. Onwards to 50 million we go đ
