Whilst up north on the recent few shows, I had the great pleasure of dropping in at @sweetdealdrums and seeing this absolute legend. Kev showed me round his studio, we had a little jam on some of his amazing @nataldrumsofficial kits. Talked all things music, drums and industry over a coffee. . And then spent some time playing through some stunning @amediacymbalsuk cymbals. And I walked away with this amazing 20” Lo-Fi crash, so much character to it, with trashier overtones but it really sings! Here he is 😎 the one and only @jackbarriedrums 👊🏻 Welcome to the Protection Racket family Jack, it's a pleasure to have you board Team PR! Jack is a Freelance drummer, Originally from Swindon but currently based in Essex. He started playing drums at the age of 11, taking early influence from the likes of Taylor Hawkins, Chad Smith and Travis Barker. Due to his amazing drum teacher, he was opened up to all types of music, from Stevie Wonder, Frank Sinatra or Slipknot on any given week. At 18 he went to study at the Academy of Contemporary Music in Guildford, learning and studying with some for the best in the industry. Starting his working career in 2011, Jack has been fortunate to work around the world. Working on Cruise Ships, playing everything from ballroom standards, easy listening through to disco, rock, pop, country and more, really widening his range and vocabulary, As well as Hotel Residencies across the Middle East and Asia, playing a mixture of pop rock and latin, keeping up with the current top40s of the moment. From 2017 Jack has been busy back in the UK, producing and MDing Tribute shows to Lady Gaga (@borngagaofficial ) and Taylor Swift (@taylorforevermoreofficial ). As well as these two tributes, Jack plays with a top Phil Collins & Gensis Tribute (@deanoasphilcollins ), which will be touring extensively around the UK next year under the show name ‘In The Air Tonight’. Jack has met and worked with many other tributes, being the main Dep for - Fleetwood Mac (@runintheshadowtribute ), Michael Jackson (@foreverjacksonshow ), Prince (@markanthonyasprince ), ABBA (@arrival_uk ), Bruno Mars (@24kbrunoshow ) and more. Jack also works with an Country Artist - Mikala Fredriksson (@mikalafredrikssonmusic ) He has performed on 5 Pantos, notably in Norwich where he will be back this Winter for his 3rd show. Excited to announce that I’m officially an artist with @sweetdealdrums 🤘🏼playing @balbex_drumsticks_uk . Big thanks to Kev and Su for having me onboard . I’ve been playing the same brand of sticks for years, and was looking for a change. I’ve always wanted to support more local companies, and @sweetdealdrums are amazing to work with. After talking with Kev, we lined up a few sizes to try, and see what would be the right fit. It didn’t take long for these sticks to feel comfortable and a perfect choice! . I landed on the @balbex_drumsticks_uk Jazz Sticks. Dont let the name fool you. They have the same diameter as a standard 5A, but with a shorter taper and added length, the weight leans to the front, which is what I prefer! . Had the pleasure of joining the guys of @foreverelton for a double header show, playing Billy Joel as Forever Joel and Elton John as Forever Elton over at @earlhaigclub in Cardiff last night! . After a late call Thursday night, as their drummer dropped out last minute, I had Friday to learn both sets, and then play it last night! . Stressful but very fun! Hey! So here’s one from the ‘In the air tonight’ show, that’s completely part driven. The original track for Take me home is all drum machine, so I deep dived in to live performances and found a @drumma_tn (Chester Thompson) drum cam only video from the 1990 Berlin show. I took that part and made it work with this arrangement. It’s a lot of fun to dig in and keep consistent! . This is how we close the show. It’s epic! .
