Introducing Jack Hunter, one of 28 artists selected for Cove Park’s 2025-2026 Annual Awarded Residencies.
These fully funded residencies were awarded following an open call that received over 1,200 submissions from applicants representing every art form. The opportunity was open to individuals based in Scotland and the UK, as well as in Central and South America or its diaspora.
Originally from Inverness, Jack Hunter is an award-winning disabled, writer, actor and poet. In 2021, Jack wrote One of Two, a one-man comedy-drama about twins growing up with cerebral palsy, as part of Playwrights’ Studio Scotland and Birds of Paradise Theatre Disabled Playwright Award. One of Two is currently on tour with Independent Arts Projects and the last stop will be at Dunoon Burgh Hall on 20 March.
Jack will spend his time at Cove Park researching and developing a new play that interrogates the current discourse around assisted dying legislation.
We look forward to welcoming Jack here next month!

Saw the one and only Paul Simon last night. Another folk rock troubadour ticked off the list.
What can I say, I’m a 20th century man in a 21st century world. Look at the cardigan.
@cove_park you were cracking! Surrounded by such beautiful scenery and people for two amazing weeks. Lots of adventures, coos, sheep and submarines.
I’m so thankful for this valuable time provided through the Awarded Residency scheme.
The crux of a new play is forming. Rising out from the water of Loch Long. Exciting times!

Allies in Activism * is today.
Allies in Activism is a one-day event taking place in Edinburgh led by Jack Hunter, Ellen Renton and Independent Arts Projects.
We very much hope that this event marks the beginning of something.
This event has been made possible with support from Birds of Paradise, Eden Court Theatre, Federation of Scottish Theatre, Imaginate, Magnetic North, National Theatre of Scotland, The Work Room & Unlimited.
* The title of the event came from an article in The Stage at the beginning of the year, where arts leaders were asked about the year ahead. Jenny Sealey (Graeae’s Artistic Director) was quoted “as saying: “For companies like Graeae, this past year has been fraught with Personal Independent Payments, Access to Work and Universal Credit. We need more allies in our activism. 2026 needs to be all-embracing to ensure the theatrical landscape is rich with diversity of people and narratives.“
IAP gratefully acknowledge support from @creativescots
