VERTIGO : : New release out today! I’m so excited to share the music + video for Vertigo. I’d love to know what this piece conjures up visually for you - it’s inspired by the concept Cosmic Vertigo - as shared by Professor Mark McCaughrean, former Senior Advisor of Science + Exploration at the European Space Agency. He describes cosmic vertigo as “neither positive or negative - more momentarily transformative…it hits unexpectedly and gives a sudden glimpse of how vast and strange the universe is”. For the video, artist and film maker Amy Gwatkin shot on an early 2000s camcorder, with movement direction from Imogen Knight. I’d love you to watch + listen on YouTube - links in bio. RETURN TO SOURCE : : The incredible Imogen Knight sent me some films of her dancing which I put to this piece of music, written as part of the grieving process for a dear friend. I love the expanse + freedom Imogen embodies in her movement, reminding us that while we grieve we celebrate life, love + rebirth. We return to source, with the sky, the mountains and in the river that flows. The solo violin was recorded at my studio in Deal, and the string ensemble at @airstudioslyndhurst led by Jack Liebeck, with beautiful solo cello by Nicholas Holland. I am SO grateful for each musician in the room that day. Engineered by Mat Bartram, assisted by @_evemorris_ + mixed by @jack.beech . The sheet music + orchestration by @keziatomsett It’s out on August 21st and I can’t wait to share this one with you. * * * Words about the film: ‘As part of a continued artistic collaboration with musician Anna Phoebe, photographer @pedrorico and movement director @imogen__knight__moves__ shot this video on location in the medieval village of Fanghetto located in the Roiya Valley. Working with only a verbal provocation from Anna around the themes she had used to compose the piece initially, they shot a series of images to match. Working with the contrast of the sequinned dress against the rocks. Something old, something new. Continuous movement mirroring the continuous flow of the river and the continuous flow of life force in the body and the river. These were then compiled and edited by Anna and put to the music. The first time Peter and Imogen heard the music was the finished version of the video.’
