We are SO excited to feature our incredibly talented Deaf artist, Kaylah Vogt, during this year’s Art-A-Whirl at Jac Flats! Come experience Kaylah’s inspiring work, spin the prize wheel for a chance to win a free art print, and connect with the artist alongside an on-site volunteer interpreter to help make the event welcoming and accessible for all.
Kaylah Vogt is a multidisciplinary artist and dedicated advocate for mental health and human rights, with a particular focus on the Deaf community. With a unique background that bridges digital arts, photography, and integrated behavioral health, Kaylah’s work explores the transformative power of creativity as a tool for healing, self-discovery, and human connection.
A graduate of the University of Minnesota, Kaylah holds both a Master’s degree in Integrated Behavioral Health and a Bachelor of Arts in Digital Arts. Her academic and professional journey reflects a deep commitment to understanding the intersections of emotional well-being, artistic practice, and community care.
Kaylah developed her artistic and professional expertise through roles with Shutterfly, Walgreens, and Target, where she refined her skills in photography, visual storytelling, customer engagement, and operational leadership. These experiences helped shape her innovative approach to integrating art with behavioral health services.
Kaylah has created programs and initiatives that encourage individuals to use creativity as a pathway toward healing and personal growth. Her compassionate leadership and forward-thinking vision continue to inspire communities by demonstrating how art can foster resilience, connection, and emotional wellness.
Our committee is proud to celebrate and uplift the Deaf community through the arts and are committed to making the arts more inclusive and accessible for the Deaf community.
You can learn more about Kaylah’s story through the Minnesota Commission of the Deaf, Deafblind, and Hard of Hearing web page:https://mn.gov/deaf-commission/advocacy-issues/employment/can-do-anything/index/kaylah-vogt.jsp

Opening night at Jackson Flats. The Shape Of Absence. I applied to this show because the subject matter struck a tone inside me. I created this piece, “Mourning the Mirage”, out of pain, loss, realization, clarity and grief. It had been my hope to create more for this show but difficultly with my right hand made this single piece a struggle. I’m so happy I completed it and was able to exhibit this tonight. #thankyou #itsallsoclear #clarity #resilience #fulloftears #theshapeofmyvessel #evolving #greif #loss #realization #nomoretears #betweenthetears #crytoheal #multimediaart #papercutting #guildofamericanpapercutters #watercolor #saintpaulartist #localart #NFS #healing #myheartiswhole #fragmentsmadewhole @stpaulartcollective@umbra.arts.mpls@calendula_gallery
Opening this Saturday: Shape of Absence — a curated collection of 40+ artists exploring grief, loss, love, and the quiet spaces between.
This is one of the most powerful and emotionally resonant exhibitions I’ve personally ever helped curate, made possible through the insight and collaboration of co-curator @jessagegax and the support of @jacflats
Featuring multidisciplinary voices — painters, poets, sculptors, musicians, and several large-scale installations — this show offers a fully immersive experience that reaches into some of our deepest, most universal human experiences.
A scramble to make this one for a show called “ The shape of absence”. Though there were some obstacles to overcome, I’m very happy with how this piece turned out. “Mourning the Mirage”. - Mixed Media- Hand cut paper, vessel, zipper, paper scraps, blue burlap, rocks, print of my watercolor “ Still Beating”, cord findings shrouding my heart. #localart #handcutpaper #paperart #art #papercutting #paper #saintpaul #saintpaulartist #healing #grief #loss #thetrue #authenticity #vulnerability #myhealingspace #thetearshavedried @stpaulartcollective
Seeking Visual Artist's, writer's, poets and performers for art related to grief, healing, transcendence, or a lost loved one.
Grief is a reflection of love, a reminder of the connections that shape who we are. This show explores how loss and memory live within us, weaving patterns of love, absence, and resilience. Through art, we invite you to consider grief not as something to hide, but as an essential part of the human experience that deepens our bonds with one another.
Open Call until Nov. 1
Co-curated by @jessagegax@condensedcloud
