One of my projects coming in 2026, “Dr. Meatface” a 7-episode series I directed/DP. Wrote it with funny dude Lee Keeler @l.klr_ , who also plays the lead (pictured on the phone).

13 year old Jaan would be very stoked that I did this NBA Finals thingee at ABC in 2024. Though the version that aired was a revised version where I removed the camera flashes.

Cleaning, I found this 1/6 astronaut doll I modified for a miniature shot where a cosmonaut gets pummeled by asteroids, ha. Never finished it (moustache and chest/shoulder pieces) because the project was shelved before completion, due to the 2008 recession. I remember this is how I figured out you can dye fabric using drafting markers. Also if anyone cares, the actor’s helmet glass was going to be done in post so we could have reflections of earth and his ship (very efficient vfx since we have that thick black border). You can see other costumes for that character in slide 2. I remember @jennatar did a great job with his “radiation sickness” makeup. Btw that’s my own hair clippings glued to actor Lee Stoneman’s shaved head, ha. The project was "Video-Game's Warriors of Dezstyny", a comedy series pilot I was writer, director, DP, editor, and VFX’er for. Okay, end of novel.

Right after magic hour comes tragic hour. Even more fun when it starts raining right after the sun sets (peep those umbrellas over the lights). 2nd slide is the scene. Note that we have the actual setting sun in the first shot, and we purposely blocked the shot so the booth ends up covering the sun, because we obviously were going to lose it for subsequent shots (we shot that wide first). The film’s lighting is meant to feel somewhat like an old classic musical, so naturalism/realism wasn’t a concern, which made the tragic hour lighting not too challenging. Big props to my g/e team for getting it done with grace. Ok novella done. From the feature film I was cinematographer and colorist on, “Little Miss Puppet” which was realeased theatrically in Sri Lanka and is now available via VOD rental there.⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀ Directed by Kalpana Ariyawansa & Vindana Ariyawansa⠀⠀⠀ 1st AC: Kosala Deshapriya⠀⠀⠀⠀ 2nd ACs: Asanka Munasinghe, Kasun Wimukthi⠀⠀⠀ Gaffer: Kumara Thilak

Fake “bad” logo for a local restaurant on an alien planet that I made in ye olde 2008 for a series pilot called “Video-Game’s Warriors of Dezstyny” that I wrote/directed. This was going to be printed onto the back of a delivery guy’s nylon jacket. This logo is probably my magnum opus.

In the bottom frame, from a dream sequence, in post I disproportionately widened the tiles at the left/right edges of the screen to add an unconscious cue that something was illogical about the situation. “Dirty, Yellow, Darkness” that I was DP, editor, and colorist for, was theatrically released in Sri Lanka and played 15 intl film fests (including Shanghai, India/Goa, and Beijing), 7 of which were in competition.⠀ ⠀ Directed by Kalpana Ariyawansa & Vindana Ariyawansa 1st AC: Kosala Deshapriya⠀ 2nd AC: Asanga Weligama Gaffers: Kumara Thilak, Surendra Kumara

Bone apple tea. End logo shot from a satirical spot I directed & did vfx for, for TechTV a bazillion years ago. I had to change out this shot because an exec said it looked “too disgusting.” And now it is here, years later, disgusting you. Reuse & recycle, do your part.
