yung ‘the song’ nanggaling sa pagalala sa isa’t isa, magkabilaan at a certain time and place. kaya yung dear tangerine mas forward thinking— walk two steps ahead of me, is this all it’ll ever be? daming tanong, sana masagot, just like how jared answered with a 1:15 minute mp3 when i asked him how the melody arrives.
tapos ayun, lahat ng tanong, nasagot! in a smoking bar, in two separate rooms, sending text messages to each other in the same room, screaming lyrics reveal, on a comfortably weird couch, in trains, in a city that knows yr name, in citrus metaphors, in all honesty— hey, this song is abt u!
and then comes the understanding of the possibilities of a guitar u didn’t think was good and trusting yourself that the words you wrote were understood— you gave me a cue so i followed through.

jared and i were housemates for two weeks eating strawberries for days convincing ourselves it was a real vacation no work just leisure music just vibes but because it’s us of course there is so much music and there is work and it’s easy because it can be.
i feel like this is the first time we learned to talk in a language that is far from how we usually do when we’re away from each other in chats and these two songs saw that growth.

i came home weeks ago from a trip i almost didn’t take because aside from the material conditions that it demanded of my limited resources, i knew the possibility of how taking it would change me, and i wasn’t sure i’d be ready for it.

i had the best time writing two new songs with jared. we’ve always done it online, and it was so moving to learn from each other in person in all our awkwardness and vulnerability. yung pakiramdam ay parang first time mo kitain yung penpal mo for 5 years tapos sinasabi niyo lang sa isa’t isa yung mga nasabi niyo na pero this time magkaharapan.
i can’t wait to tell you about it!

if there was anything i’m really bad at in music, it’s writing vocal melody and lyrics for an existing song melody. and that’s exactly what jared asked me to do for the song. and i will never say no to jared. 👩🏻💻🌏👨🏻💻
but i was struggling with it so much, the first version included some lines like “this shit is fucking hard” hahahahaha
in the process of writing the lyrics, it became so clear that i was trying to talk about that very challenged headspace and i would just have these pockets of time to work on it— my commute to work really saw it all. 🚌🎧📓 then i decided to write some lines in tagalog as placeholders because there were things i wanted to say that could only be said in my language, then it started to feel intuitive and right.
aaminin ko / karga ng padala mo / you found me in my confusion / reminding me i’m human
this is my favorite song i’ve written to date because i was able to articulate a collaboration dynamic that i really hold dear but could not explain why, not until the song existed.
so this is how it goes / patutunugin / tas i’ll / record all the feeling
