I was supposed to go in 2020, but lockdown scuppered that. But six years later I made it thanks to the wonderful team at S&S! I had THE best time meeting foreign publishers for Drop Dead Famous, Hex and Hilda and also for How Not to be A Pirate at the Usborne stand. It was so lovely to meet @paulabowles_illustrator my fabulous illustrator and to spot author friends books! There was a real whopper of a sign for @struan_c_murray ’s Dragonborn! I got lost with some Australian booksellers, found an Italian Cluedle in a bookshop, saw amazing graffiti, drank limoncello and Prosecco, had an amazing dinner and was given a Drop Dead Famous tote bag. Still can’t believe I got to go!

I won an award! Children from 21 schools in Warwickshire voted and Shrapnel Boys was chosen as the winning book. I’ve been lucky to have been shortlisted in school awards before and I have been all over the country and met so many fantastic authors and readers but I have never actually won. I was not at all cool about it when my name was announced! This was such a career highlight and I’m so thankful to everyone involved. I had the best time and it was an utter joy to meet the completely wonderful @londonbessie and the legend that is Anne Fine. As well as catching up with brilliant @dansmithauthor who had the audience on the edge of their seats with his reading.
