Belonging to my “body” of work, Bagong Salta is a hybrid project— photography and personification–that explores intersections among dislocations, queer identities, and transformations.
I explore these themes through my flamboyant alter-ego, Manikween.
To inhabit the persona that is Manikween, I wear a white bodysuit from head to toe and, on top of this inhuman skin which transforms me into a synthetic doll–a mannequin–I wear sequined skirts and draping dresses, which, as myself, I lack the courage to wear.
Manikween allowed me a generous space to play, to find comfort in my queerness, to gather strength (over time) to express my identity and the limits of safe social spaces.
This project attempts to extend Manikween beyond myself.
My video work "Paraiso" for MO_Space at ALT Discoveries.
ALT Discoveries is a platform presenting fresh insight and novel perspectives through nine artists, each delivering a solo presentation that is both compelling and critically engaged.
Explore ALT ART2026 this coming FEBRUARY 13 TO 15 at the SMX
Convention Center, Mall of Asia Complex, Pasay City.
My video work, "Sakaling Makarating" for the upcoming exhibition, entitled The Unruly Compass.
The Unruly Compass points to documentary projects, constructed still lives, reimagined realities, analog processes, and recorded fictions. Each artist encounters their practice as a form of wayfinding, directed by visible signals and intangible currents.
A group exhibition presented by Tarzeer Pictures for Art Fair Philippines.

MO_Space presents Eric Bico at ALT DISCOVERIES.
Eric Bico expands the presentation of his alter ego Manikween, a persona he created in 2018 as a conduit for articulating complex emotional and psychological states. Bico inhabits Manikween through a head-to-toe white body suit that evokes inhuman skin, at once synthetic doll and mannequin-like. Manikween becomes a vehicle for exploring visibility, vulnerability and the limits of self-expression. Bico’s new installation for MO_Space forms part of his ongoing exploration of Manikween as a practice that extends beyond the personal and the collective. It is a more ambitious attempt to situate the persona within larger social, cultural and public contexts.

CLOSING SOON: MGA MUNTING ALAALA
Eric Bico
November 7 - December 20
With new work from a repository of material found and created over the years, Eric Bico’s first solo exhibition follows a delicate trail of interactions reminding him why he makes images.
𝘔𝘨𝘢 𝘔𝘶𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘈𝘭𝘢𝘢𝘭𝘢 opens with wounds. Photographs from Bico’s only family album, cropped into, worn by age and touch. What we might see overlaps with the vividness of condition: damp, fibrous, discolored. Injuries can be blunt and sudden, but they can also manifest slowly. Applying patches of present images onto each one, Bico finds that remedy is possible, even if time has gone by.
Yet the work of confronting the past is difficult. It asks for a place to reflect, especially in rest and dreams. Light wanes between sleep; a video collage, rendered in inverted color, emits a purple glow. Piecing together moments from his life today, Bico creates a temporary atmosphere for memories to live with ease. As the tension builds among scabs and salves, he welcomes us to release in song.
25 pre-selected tracks with unique single-take scenes are programmed into a karaoke machine. To Bico, each one holds meaning, tied to experiences had and yearned for: sitting sideways on the back of a motorcycle, playing a game of chinese garter, staring into the horizon from a ferris wheel. Manikween—the persona through which he has been able to try without inhibition—allows these fantasies to come true. With a microphone in hand and songs in queue, our voices carry us towards relief, free from the need to find words for feelings.
𝘔𝘨𝘢 𝘔𝘶𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘈𝘭𝘢𝘢𝘭𝘢 begins as Bico’s attempt to forget, and gradually becomes a path towards healing. A love letter to you and the many things worth remembering.
In PAG-ALALA PAGHILOM, Eric Bico brought together friends and visitors for an artist’s talk, a slideshow with Flint Photo Collective, and a karaoke night.
Thank you to all those who came, listened, and sang. 🤍
