On 27.04.2026, at our deportation workshop at International Women Space in Berlin, the room was filled with raw vulnerability. Women shared their fears, their uncertainty, and the quiet pain of not knowing if they will be allowed to stay. Voices trembled, some broke into tears, and others spoke with a strength shaped by survival. It was heavy, emotional, and deeply human a space where women were seen, heard, and held in their most fragile moments.

In the fifth episode of Change of Perspective – Whose Story Gets Told?, we speak with Ann Aradi, queer Kenyan human rights activist based in Berlin and coordinator of the “Resilient Voices” project (@resilientvoices_berlin ) at @iwspace.de Together, we explore who holds the power to tell stories, why storytelling is political, and how language shapes representation. As dominant systems control narratives, often by using oppressive terms: Ann calls for reclaiming language as a tool of empowerment, while reflecting on storytelling as a collective act of resistance. 🎧 Find the podcast here (link also in bio):

Join us for an evening of film, discussion, and shared dinner as part of the workshop “Our Stories, Our Rights: Citizenship and Democracy.”
At the center of the event is the screening of The Right to Have Rights, a short film by With Wings and Roots e.V. and RomaniPhen e.V. The film amplifies the voices of migrants, refugees, BPoC, and Roma and Sinti communities in Germany, shedding light on ongoing struggles for citizenship, belonging, and equal rights in a system that continues to exclude many from full political participation.

The screening is part of a transnational workshop bringing together activists from Germany and Italy to strengthen advocacy, storytelling, and media skills. Participants work on turning lived experiences of exclusion and resistance into powerful public narratives and strategies for political change.

Following the screening, protagonists from the film and activists from the workshop will come together in a panel discussion to reflect on shared struggles, exchange strategies, and explore how alliances across movements and borders can challenge systemic injustice and reclaim democratic participation.

Over a shared dinner, there will be space to connect, build relationships, and continue the conversation beyond the panel.

Language: Film in German with English subtitles; discussion in English. (🇩🇪DE in the comments👇)

In the fifth episode of the Change of Perspective podcast: Whose Story Gets Told - Language, Framing and Representation, we speak with Ann Aradi - a queer Kenyan and human rights activist currently based in Berlin. She is coordinator of the project “Resilient Voices” (@resilientvoices_berlin ) at International Women* Space (@iwspace.de ), Berlin. With Ann we spoke about who holds the power to speak, and which stories are heard? Why is it important to be each other’s witness? Why is storytelling political and what is the role of community in the process of sharing our stories? How can we use language to get back our power and why is poetry a vital necessity of our existence - as Audrie Lorde said. Ann emphasises that narratives are often controlled by those with power. She highlights the oppressive language used by systems, such as calling asylum seekers “illegal”, and advocates for strategic use of language to challenge these narratives. Ann also acknowledges the importance of community in storytelling and activism, sharing her experiences with poetry and storytelling as a means to express and connect with others. She concludes by underscoring the need for authenticity and impactful actions in activism, rather than performative gestures.

As the European Commission runs its 2026 anti-racism conference ahead of International Day Against Racism this Saturday, we want to push beyond the idea that combating racism is about combating individual instances of hate or discrimination. Racism occurs as a result of deliberate policies and huge resources being put into institutions that exploit, marginalise, and scapegoat racialised people. From the arms trade to neo-colonial debt policies abroad to a violent border regime at home. That's why anti-racism must be about building a society of care, not control, intersectional justice and solidarity with the Global South.

READ MORE ABOUT IT 📖 Across Europe, people are calling out against politicians pushing for ICE-style deportation policies. On the 26th March, the European Parliament will vote on the Deportation Regulation, that will make deportations, detention and raids easier, following ICE-style procedures. 🚨 Our campaign has called for the REJECTION of this law. We stand for safe communities across Europe and against the normalization of far-right policies. Swipe through to learn more about the proposal and why it has no place in Europe. 🔎
