Hello! Quick self-intro for recent new friends, thank you for joining me on this adventure called life! 💕
My name is Isis W. Berns, I’m from Toronto Canada 🇨🇦 my parents are from Poland 🇵🇱 & Peru 🇵🇪 & I currently live in Sapporo Hokkaido Japan 🇯🇵
My love for Japan started when I was 13 years old: through anime, music, and dramas my Japanese language obsession thrived.
I did a quick homestay to Kamifurano when I was 15, and knew when I graduated university I would come back on the JET Programme to Hokkaido. I was placed in Shiranuka Town, for 2 years.
Forever love eastern Hokkaido!!
I moved to Sapporo to pursue my dream of working in Japanese media (TV & radio). I started as bilingual event MC, helped start up an online foreigner news TV show called “Iibesa Hokkaido” and started working at
@airg_fm to interview Japanese musicians - with my love for Japanese music that was a dream come true!
But it wasn’t all smooth sailing. I needed a visa to stay in Japan; the one-shot jobs and limited experience wasn’t enough. So I went to a college for two years to study Japanese performing arts. Closer to graduation I still had no visa and nearly gave up. Seeking purpose, I attended a local Christian church
@lifehouseglobal and the bilingual worship there gave me a new revelation. “This is why I’m here!” I got saved and thought, “as long as I’m at church and in Sapporo with the ppl I love, I don’t mind giving up my media dreams.” So I let it go, and two weeks later, HTB local tv station called me for a new international media position; I told them as long as I can have Sundays off, I’m in. Started as a reporter on
@htb_lovehokkaido then brought the tv show and station character on-chan to Hawaii with
@dokogatv &
@palizzz !
After 3 years, I wanted to start a family, so I took a step down from everything to make that a priority. Two adorable girls!! My faith got me through a lot and I can’t imagine a day without Jesus.
I still can’t believe my childhood dreams of working in Japan came true. Translator, bilingual MC, travel blog, write lyrics / novel, on TV NHK etc. Still overwhelmed & grateful. Love my family, friends for support. Love you all! ❤️🙏🙌
