It’s Good Fun’s one-year Anniversary! šŸŽ‰ Hi, I’m Sky CEO and Founder of Good Fun. Saturday marked our one year and although I don’t not like to be in front of the camera I think it’s important to acknowledge it’s been a year! Several years ago a female monk, a nun, told me that 2025 was going to be a good year. Although I didn’t want to hold onto that expectation, I never imagined I would launch a passion project, aka my night job, with a simple mission to connect people through movement, food and culture. To create real lasting memories like ones I have been so fortunate to have. To include all walks of life and to encourage less digital life & more real life. So here’s a reel of the last year, from the weekends, the nights (as this isn’t my main job) and some weekly shots of spiritual acknowledgment I received from Godfather Monk Big Bapa that is my constant friendly reminder that I’ll stay on this path <3 Thanks to all the friends, fans and new people I’ve met so far - I’m quite excited to keep the Good Fun going 🫰 #portland #pdxevents #goodfun #foodieadventure #pdxadventures

Stop the scroll. Take a sec to read, then put that phone down and take a stroll—it’s time for our Global Glimpse. At Good Fun, one of our core missions is cultural storytelling. We’re here to spotlight the backgrounds, brands, products, and services of the businesses we partner with—many of which bring their heritage from abroad to share with communities here in the U.S. Good Fun loves a good theme, so for the third-year anniversary party at Sakura that honored Japanese culture with Sumo Wrestling there was also highlights of Anime hiding in the details. Anime, literally meaning ā€œanimationā€ from Japan has grown far beyond entertainment. It can be seen as a lifestyle and a cultural force, appearing in advertisements, public transportation, and even influencing economic development. Today, it is one of Japan’s largest cultural exports, generating roughly $25 billion USD annually. The popularity of Anime stems from the fact that it is more of a medium than a single genre, targeting a wide range of audiences. Its stories often explore emotionally complex and mature themes making them resonate deeply with viewers. The iconic visual language such as expressive overside eyes and colorful hair depict dramatic emotions of that character that is both compelling to young and adult audiences. But behind the cartoon-like characters one of the biggest themes is the emphasis on respect, honor and social hierarchy. It is an essential significance to Japanese culture, and it reflects and shapes social values integrated by traditional folklore and modern- day challenges. Serving both as a cultural bridge and a mirror of Japan’s evolving social landscape, reinforcing a strong sense of national identity. #anime #goodfun #pdxevents #portland #foodieadventures

There are those moments that you have where you stop and say that was really fun. When experiences are created that literally drive new customers to turn around from across the street because they saw ā€œnaked menā€ (sumo wrestlers) from afar. I think it’s safe to say the third year anniversary party was a success. To the Sakura team and the owners, three years was an important number. Roughly 40% of restaurants fail or change ownership within their first three years here in Portland. So It’s important that this business stays small and family run. So that they can continue to create exceptional product. So that they can continue to source the finest ingredients with their own hands. And so we celebrated that milestone. We celebrated the art of sumo, demonstrated by Portland Sumo, who taught the crowd the history and rituals of the sport, highlighting its deep roots in Shinto tradition. But just watching a sport isn’t what we are about, as sports are best played when everyone has a fair chance to play... so the crowd volunteered. From men in their 70’s to young kids, everyone was encouraged to be their own sumo. #portland #pdx #pdxevents #foodieadventures #happyvalley

Stop the scroll. Take a sec to read, then put that phone down and take a stroll—it’s time for a Global Glimpse. At Good Fun, one of our core missions is cultural storytelling. We’re here to spotlight the backgrounds, brands, products, and services of the businesses we partner with The art of Sumo. šŸŒŽ Sumo wrestling to the unknown is quite a site. The tremendous size of the wrestlers, some averaging around 330lbs, using their physical weight to push the opponent out of the ring at an intense explosive moment. This national sport of Japan dates back 1000 years and began as a ritual in Shinto, the Japan’s indigenous religion centered around nature, respect and spirits known as kami. It was a sacred ritual, honoring the kami asking for their blessings, especially for good harvests. Today, there are still some traditions involved in the sport such as stomping their feet to drive away bad spirits, throwing salt into the ring to purify and the loincloth that sumo wrestlers wear. Known as a mawashi, a thick belt providing support and coverage, as it is the only item worn during a bout (match), embodying discipline and bravery. Metaphorically, there’s something we can all take from sumo. Think about boundaries, who do you want in your ring? And those who refuse to leave? Be bold, be brave, be the sumo you are and push them out. Can’t make it to Japan on Saturday but want to watch the sport live? Join us at Hanami Nights: A Sakura Anniversary Celebration featuring a live performance by Portland Sumo at 4:00PM! FREE samples, Discounted drinks, and cheers to another year! We hope you can make it! #pdxevents #portland #pdxhappyhour #happyvalley Photo cred: Credit to Yukikaze1234. Image in the public domain.

Our bodies are our best language but often we ignore them. Were taught to walk off pain, push through, or to quiet what they feel even when they scream. Sometimes the mind justifies staying in, while the body asks for accountability. At Sunday’s Run-to-Eat, the language spoke loud and clear. It showed up in the small things: feet moving faster than expected, heads held high with quiet confidence, wide eyes signaling a well deserved reward, eye contact when friends were engaged in conversation and not distracted by their phone. Of course, body language isn’t the whole story; words matter too. They help complete the picture. We hope everyone had a great time (from what we saw, it looked that way) but if your experience was anything less, we want to hear it. Your feedback helps us make this better. We hope you can make the next Run-to-Eat. Movement that satisfies all senses. And in the end, it wasn’t just the run or the food; it was the crow’s feet (or that good smile) that told us everything we needed to know….Now that, was Good Fun. ✨ A perspective reflection from the ones behind the camera, not the one being filmed - A lens perspective. #goodfun #pdx #foodieadventures #funrun #portlandrunning
