IWA members gathered to explore the cultural practice of Japanese origami and its deeper meaning.
According to Japanese tradition, folding 1,000 cranes (senbazuru) is associated with wishes for health, longevity, and peace.
Our group contributed cranes to the Cranes for Peace Project, an initiative led by the Japanese Culture Center and Osaka Chicago Sister Cities Committee to promote peace in Chicago and beyond.

Cinco de Mayo actually commemorates the Mexican army’s victory at the Battle of Puebla, not Mexico’s Independence Day.
And in Chicago, it’s especially meaningful. The city is home to one of the largest Mexican populations in the U.S., making Cinco de Mayo a vibrant celebration of culture, heritage, and community.🇲🇽

Last week, members gathered at George B. Swift Specialty School to celebrate the unveiling of three new murals created for the Swift community. Made possible through a generous legacy gift from the late Lynnette Gaza and created in collaboration with artists from the Art of Giving Foundation. The murals celebrate the vibrant diversity of the school, where students speak more than 50 languages and represent cultures from around the world.
We were also honored to have Alderwoman Leni Manaa-Hoppenworth of the 48th Ward join us for the unveiling. Swift School has long been a valued partner in the philanthropic work of the International Women Associates, and it was a meaningful moment to celebrate creativity, inclusion, and the lasting connection between our members and the Swift community.
