What happens when we reconnect nature and culture?
At its core, the biodiversity and climate crisis is not just ecological, it is social, relational, and deeply cultural. It reflects how we have come to see ourselves as separate from the living world and from each other.
The Nature Culture Fellowship emerged as an experiment-
a way to do things differently.
To move beyond the status quo of conservation
and explore what long-term, relational change could look like.
In 2025, 65 fellows from 53 countries came together for a 10-week journey.
37 of them went on to seed projects in their communities.
What unfolded was not just action,
but relationships being rebuilt.
Between generations.
Between communities.
Between people and the more-than-human world.
Over the coming weeks, we’ll be sharing these stories,
of what happens when conservation becomes relational, cultural, and community-led.
This is just the beginning.

🌊 Equity matters in marine conservation
Marine conservation does not affect everyone in the same way.
A new guidebook developed within CEESP offers practical guidance to assess and improve social equity in marine conservation, with a focus on recognition, meaningful participation, and the fair distribution of benefits and costs.

*Gender-based violence (GBV) is not only a social issue — it is an environmental and human rights crisis.*
From land rights and climate disasters to extractive industries and environmental defence, GBV occurs across the ecosystems we depend on.
💡 What? GBV affects 1 in 3 women and girls globally and appears across environmental sectors.
💡 Why? Gender injustices, resource pressures, and weakened rule of law reinforce violence — undermining conservation, resilience, and human rights.
💡 How? By integrating GBV risk analysis, strengthening women’s leadership, protecting defenders, and adopting gender-responsive approaches, we can build safe, sustainable, and equitable futures.
