In 5 days I will walk across that stage and finally accomplish my main Goal in this college journey.
I have learned so much during my time here, navigating the many highs and lows that forced me to show my resilience. I gave LSU my absolute all from my studies and my organizations to the relationships I poured my time and energy into. I thank God for the doors He opened, and I only wish I had listened sooner so I could have made even more memories with my brothers in BMLI and the family I created through my organization changing outlook.
I cannot express enough gratitude to them for taking a chance on me. They helped me break out of my shell, moving me past the days when I was too shy to leave my apartment or truly experience the “fun” side of college life.
To my familythank you for being by my side whenever I needed advice, a listening ear, or the occasional much-needed donation. I persevered even when I felt burnt out, unmotivated, or weighed down by life’s random disappointments.
Dad, I got our degree! I guess it was money well spent. Most importantly, I didn’t give up, and I didn’t let the things you called “distractions” hinder me from reaching the finish line.
Grandmother, I hope I made you proud. I pray you continue to be my guardian angel; this milestone was for you, too.
Please know that this isn’t the end of my journey—it’s only the beginning. This is just one of many accomplishments I have in store for everyone who wants to see me succeed. To those I’ve promised to support: whether I am near or far, that will never change. I have nothing but love for you.
My prayers have been answered. If you want to see it happen live, I’ll be at the PMAC on May 16th at 8:00 AM!
This 5-year journey of my life has had many ups and downs, times when I wanted to give up, but I persevered to cross the finish line and fully accomplish my long-term dream of graduating. Even though it's still a few weeks until then, I feel very accomplished and can finally let out a sigh of relief from my hard work and adversity. I didn't fully know what this journey was going to bring me because I truly didn't realize how important college is. I honestly didn't even consider applying to colleges until the very last minute and LSU stuck out to me out of all my options. One thing I can say is, I don't regret this decision at all. I am forever grateful for my friends and family, my organizations who brought a lot of them into my life.
To my RAs who became my first real friends and family on campus…I barely left my dorm because of y'all. I came in shy and y'all instantly broke me out of that shell and made me feel less homesick and nervous about being miles away from home. Ultimately, making me feel like LSU is a second home for me.
I give all glory to God for opening this door and all the other ones he opened previously in my life to bring me here.
And to my parents…I'm forever grateful for all the sacrifices you made for me to get here and till the end of time, I got y'all. I will continue to make y'all proud and return your investment. Y'all made me a man and now a soon-to-be graduate. I did this for me most importantly, but I also did this for y'all, especially you momma.
