Monday, 11/10 | 6:30 PM | Schomburg Center: Join us for an evening of staged readings of scenes from the first half of the 20th century as they were presented by the legendary group The Krigwa Players in the 1920s.
The collective CLASSIX, through an exploration of Black performance history and dramatic works by Black writers, spotlights the 135th Street Library’s contributions to Black theater. The cast includes: Bianca LaVerne Jones, Alicia Pilgrim, Sean Boyce Johnson, Brittany Bradford, Amara James Aja, and Bjorn DuPaty. Dominique Rider directs.
Following the readings, Rider will moderate a conversation with Voza Rivers, New Heritage Theatre, Arminda Thomas, CLASSIX, Shawn Rene Graham, Classical Theatre of Harlem, and Garlia Jones, Harlem 9, Blackboard Plays, the Black Motherhood and Parenting (BMP) Festival and others.

We're thrilled to curate the program "Big Plays in the Library Little Theatre" as part a Century of Black Theater Making series in honor of the Schomburg Center's centennial.
Join us on Nov 10th at 6:30pm as we present a staged reading of excerpts from plays originally presented at the 135th St. Library (which is now home to the Schomburg Center) during the 1920s-1940s!
Dominique Rider is directing and the reading cast includes Amara James Aja, Brittany Bradford, Bjorn DuPaty, Bianca LaVerne Jones, Sean Boyce Johnson and Alicia Pilgrim.
Following the reading there will a be a discussion about the legacy of Black theater in Harlem with
Voza Rivers, Garlia Jones, Shawn Rene Graham, Dominique Rider and Classix's Arminda Thomas.

Brooklyn's historic The Billie Holiday Theatre is launching The Black Narrative theater series during the weekend of Nov 15-17 and we're elated that we were invited to present a staged reading of two one-act plays on Sun Nov 17th. We're pairing Amiri Baraka's "Dutchman" and Aishah Rahman's "The Lady and the Tramp" which was written in response to "Dutchman." The cast includes Starr Kirkland, Leslie Fray, and Amara James Aja.
CLASSIX's Dominique Rider directs and Arminda Thomas dramaturgs. A post-show and a post-show talkback with Rider, Thomas, Nehassaiu DeGannes and Yoruba Richen (Rahman's daughter who is also an award winning filmmaker) follows.
