Happy May Sweetheart!! April flew by and we can’t wait for what this month will bring. At last we have a few weekend pop-up dates and we are working on securing as many weekends as we can!

SweetHearts Bakery was inspired long before it ever had a name. It began in the kitchens of two incredible women in my life — my mother, Classie R. Washington, and my grandmother, Annie R. Lauchie. Today, both of them have passed on, but their love, lessons, and influence live on in everything I create.
My mom was a stay-at-home mother, which meant most of our meals were made right at home. From breakfast and dinner to dessert, I grew up watching her cook with care and generosity. Pound cakes cooling on the counter, fresh rolls coming out of the oven, and her famous lasagna were just part of everyday life. More than the food, she instilled in me generosity, integrity, and a commitment to excellence — and she constantly reminded me that I could accomplish anything I set my mind to.
My grandmother Annie was a powerhouse in the kitchen in her own right. She was a true savory cook — baked chicken, fried fish, rice, greens, and all the comforting foods that make a house feel like home. But what shaped me most was the trust she placed in me. Even when I was young, she would allow me to take the lead in the kitchen, giving me responsibility and confidence while also offering thoughtful feedback to help me improve.
She loved sweets, especially a good pound cake, and she was always pushing me to make the next one even better.
Today, SweetHearts Bakery carries pieces of both of them — their love for bold flavor, their insistence on doing things the right way, their generosity, and their belief that food should bring people together.
If they walked into one of our Sip, Savor & Decorate experiences today, I think my grandmother would be in awe of the colors, the details, and the creativity — while my mom would love the sense of community, learning, and connection filling the room.
Everything we create at SweetHearts is rooted in the lessons they gave me: pursue excellence, cook with integrity, be generous, and never be afraid to be authentically yourself.
This Women’s History Month, I honor my mother and my grandmother — two women whose love, strength, and belief in me continue to guide SweetHearts every single day. #internationalwomensday
